We needed to pause; we needed to grieve.
``This nation is peaceful, but fierce when stirred to anger,'' Bush said. ``This conflict was begun on the timing and terms of others; it will end in a way and at an hour of our choosing.''
On the Las Vegas Strip, several marquees that usually advertise entertainers' names instead featured flags with the message ``God Bless America'' or ``One Nation Under God.''
``I'm supposed to be a Christian, but my prayers are for revenge,'' said Al Thompson, who attended a Mass at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans. ``What's the saying? God may forgive them but I never will.''
The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a resolution on Friday authorizing President Bush to ``use all necessary and appropriate force'' against the perpetrators. The House of Representatives also was expected to back the bipartisan measure requested by the president.

Ebay Power Seller
I'd like to thank eBay for including me as a Power Seller, to achieve this you have to have a 98% positive feedback rating, and offer a satisfaction guarantee, in which I offer a 100% return policy. As of 2002 I have retired and cut back on selling and am no longer a Powerseller, but still sell unique and intriging items.
I'd like to also thank eBay for including me in a article in their new book "The Official Ebay Guide, to Buying, Selling, and Collecting Just About Anything", published by Simon & Schuster, you can find me on page 120, the book has some valuable information and you can find it in most book stores. Yes, I had to buy the book, but I will honestly tell you, there is all kinds of valuable information in it. Take it from me, especially if you are new, you will use it in your quest to better buying and selling on eBay. The book's mission is to help you be a successful eBay user. On a point and click bases, eBay is not hard to master, but there's much more to eBay than words and images on the screen. eBay has spawned a new way of life for many of us. This book will help you get the most out of it, and it's only $13.00!
Ebay Ambassador
I would like to thank eBay for appointing me as a eBay Ambassador. I consider this a genuine privilege and would be glad to help anybody on any problems they are having or any tips or help on posting, pictures, or anything to do with eBay's auctions. Call me for free on DialPad.com
To My Surprise!
Out of the blue one day I received a call, it was a reporter from our local paper, The Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, he asked me if I would answer a few questions on eBay and internet sales as he was doing a article on WWW sales. He also asked if he could bring a photographer along. I agreed and the next day we met, they took a few pictures and told me to look in the business section of the paper on Sunday. To my surprise, I never made it to the business section, this was what greeted me, on the front page. This article was also picked up by AP and was in other newspapers.
I'd like to thank reporter Mike Kline and photographer Dan Reiland for the professional, well written article they are responsible for about web commerce, antiquing, and how eBay is changing the conventional way of buying and selling.
A New eBay Friend
In early October I had a fellow eBayer fly in to pick up his winning bid, here are some pictures of us loading his unique, new found treasure.
My wife, Donna and I on vacation in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

Department 56 Secondary Market Overview
As your Dept 56 collection grows, you may wonder where to turn to find the pieces that are no longer in production. While there is a possibility that you may find some of these elusive pieces at a garage sale or hidden in the back room of your favorite retailer, your much more likely to find them on the SECONDARY MARKET. I consider eBay one of the best places to find these pieces, and at a true market value price. However, before one dives into the secondary market, it is wise to understand how it functions and what to expect.
Retirements
The secondary market for Department 56 was created in 1979 when the company announced the first Snow Village retirements, ensuring the line's statue as a collectible. Since then, retirements for all the Villages have been announced annually by Department 56. When a piece retires, the mold is broken to ensure the piece will never be produced again. As retailers' stock depletes, demand begins to overtake supply and the piece's value begins to increase, causing the piece to retain what is known as "secondary market value".
Limited Editions and Exclusives
Popular items on the secondary market include limited editions and exclusive pieces. Limited edition are pieces limited either by production time ( LE-1999) or by the number of pieces produced (LE-10,000). Since limited edition editions often have smaller production quanity than general releases, retailers are allocated fewer pieces. A lot of collectors don't have the opportunity to purchase the piece in retail stores, which forces them to look on the secondary market.
Condition
As with anything else, items that are in the best condition will fetch the highest prices. Stray wisps of paint, chips, cracks, and water damage all can reduce the value of a piece on the secondary market. You should inspect each piece carefully before you purchase and remember to keep in mind that some pieces have been repaired or restored. It is OK to buy these pieces, as long as you are aware that they will not fetch as high of a resale price.
Flawless pieces, or "mint in the box" will fetch the highest amount. These piece often have never been removed from their original boxes (or styrofoam packaging and protective sleeve) and may be marked as "MIB". Pieces sold without their original boxes are often considered "incomplete" and are worth less on the secondary market.
As a seller I endeavor to make transactions go as smoothly as possible by
- Making descriptions as clear and complete as possible.
- Answer email questions quickly while sale is in progress.
- Set reasonable shipping and payment terms.
- Charge fair and reasonable shipping fees.
- Alert buyers when funds are received and of shipping date.
- Be fair and honest if a problem arises, and do my best to reach a mutually acceptable solution, even if it is not in my finanical interest.
- Reward all buyers with positive feedback at time of shipping, as they have fulfilled their obligation.
Collectible Tidbit
Did you know........In 1963 the Zone Improvement Plan (ZIP Codes) was implemented by the U.S. Post Office, carving the nation into 43,000 parts---and dramatically improving mail sorting effiency? I use this all the time to help date items that were shipped or in their original box. Look on the box for a zip code, if not there, it most likely was before 1963.
Did you know.........that Mattel's billionaire Barbie doll's full name is Barbie Millicent Roberts?
Condition of Glass Or Pottery Items
- First of all, a chip is a chip no matter what you call it (Glaze and China portions broken away from a particular item).
- A Fleabite is a very small chip, but a chip! (hard to detect but can be felt when you run your finger over the piece)
- A flake is a piece of chipped away glass or pottery (usually happens when one piece hits another)
- Glaze Skip-a imperfection done during manufacturing (generally the color is there but the over glaze was not applied on the color before firing)
- A Crack is a break in the piece that can be seen or felt on the inside and outside! Liqiud may leak from it, and as a collectible, about worthless, unless it was your great grandmothers.
- Hairline-A crack that does not go completely thru from the inside to the outside of the item. Only visible from one side, usually won't leak.
- Spider Mark-A crack or hairline break that begins at a center point and protrudes in several directions in a erratic manner.
Your idea of mint may differ from others who think just because a item is old or has minor wear, or a chip it is acceptable and still puts it in the range of mint. It's not that way, mint is mint, no matter how you look at it. I suggest to inspect your items very critically and then inspect it again before arriving at your grading.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU LOSE YOUR PURSE OR WALLET (copied from email sent to me)
We've all heard horror stories about fraud that's committed using your
name, address, SS#, credit, etc. Unfortunately I (author of this piece)
have firsthand knowledge, because my wallet was stolen last month and
within a week the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone
package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy
a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving
record information online, and more.
But here's some critical information to limit the damage in case this
happens to you or someone you know.
As everyone always advises, cancel your credit cards immediately, but the
key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know
who to call. Keep those where you can find them easily (having to hunt for
them is additional stress you WON'T need at that point!) (I put all my
important cards and driver's license on a copy machine and copied both
sides. I keep this in my credit card file at home).
File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where it was stolen,
this proves to credit providers you were diligent, and is a first step
toward an investigation (if there ever is one).
But here's what is perhaps most important: I never ever thought to do this:
Call the three national credit reporting organizations immediately to place
a fraud alert on your name and SS#. I had never heard of doing that until
advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made
over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your
credit knows your information was stolen and they have to contact you by
phone to authorize new credit.
By the time I was advised to do this - almost 2 weeks after the theft - all
the damage had been done (there are records of all the credit checks
initiated by the thieves' purchases, none of which I knew about before
placing the alert). Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the
thieves threw my wallet away this weekend (someone turned it in). It seems
to have stopped them in their tracks. The numbers are:
Equifax: 1-800 525-6285 Experian (formerly TRW): 1-800-301-7195 Trans
Union: 1-800-680-7289 Social Security Administration also has a fraud line
at 1-800-269-0271
We pass along jokes, we pass along just about everything....do think about
passing this information along .... it could help someone else.
