Back to previous page  FIVE DECADES OF ANTIQUE RUG AND TEXTILE DEALING My humble beginnings in the industry began after leaving senior school in 1958,I realized there was no future in my aspiration to be a chef. Lacking any other opportunity I set about learning commercial and artistic practices'. Attending a course at a technical college, once a week, on the subject of interior decoration,opened up a new frontier for me. I established a family partnership in 1960 operating initially out of home and then in Belgravia, London, eventually becoming a sole proprietor in 1972 when my real world in the progress of rug and textile activity took off, after the austere times in the UK during the early 1970's. I have experienced a great deal, the opportunity of meeting many important individual collectors of yesteryear. My exposure to the chances of traveling during the 50's and 60's opened my eyes to varying cultures and lifestyles. Perhaps, best of all was being in the forefront of the revival era of interest in Islamic tapitology and antique textiles. The buzz and excitement of the late 70's and 80's still rings in my ears and I am very lucky to have had that participation. My years of staging exhibitions, publishing books and catalogues have further enhanced the knowledge and expertise I have acquired over the five decades. The pleasures and gratification encountered in meeting and greeting people from all over the world, has for me, been the essence of satisfaction. Friends made during those formidable years is an indelible link to past and future. Enjoyment I only could have only gained through human contact, travel and dedication. Integrity too, is an important ingredient to achieve satisfaction. Now I am in semi-retirement having closed my last gallery in Los Angeles because of landlord changes. I am currently offering my library and shortly some residue of stock. I shall continue to offer services of buying, selling, advice, appraising and restoration.
