Goodbye eBay - why we have left youWe have been selling on eBay since September 1999, making us a very long-standing member of the eBay community. We opened an eBay shop in November 2006, and promoted it heavily. We invested a lot of time and effort into giving great customer service, and providing high-quality products at the best prices on eBay. Unfortunately, eBay was working against us. Every few months, they hike up the fees for sellers, all the time claiming that they are being reduced. They made shop listings harder and harder to find, to the point that we regularly found that our listings simply weren't showing up anywere outside the shop pages. eBay's recommendation was to upgrade our subscription (ie give them even more money). Thanks eBay for being really helpful. eBay then made more changes, all weighted heavily against the sellers, and all clearly designed to drive even more money into their bulging pockets. Every new announcement made it harder to sell on eBay. The finaly straw was when they decided to prevent sellers leaving anything other than positive feedback. Whilst the vast majority of buyers are decent honest people, there are still plenty of rogues around, and eBay have now given them the ability to cripple sellers. Well, not this one, we've had enough. Whilst this was going on, we opened up a few web sites (see Great Deals In Store for more about this), and found that getting traffic to them wasn't as hard as we believed. Sales have been good, and the costs are minimal compared to eBay. So, we have closed our eBay shop, and will probably not be selling anything more on eBay. We feel very sad about this, but unfortunately we have no choice. eBay have driven us away, just like the large number of other sellers who have given up and left. eBay won't admit this of course, but if you read any newsgroup or forum (not moderated by eBay of course), you read nothing but disillusioned sellers going elsewhere. Our web sitesIf you are interested in buying Sequin Art kits, Lamaze baby toys or Clics construction kits, please visit our (non-eBay) web sites. The prices are better than on eBay due to the lower costs. |
