I've heard of eBay for years, barely wondering what the fuss was all about...a glorified yard sale, I thought it must be. But I became interested in buying a pair of web cams to connect with someone far away, so I decided to check eBay. I got my web cams, & enjoyed the auction process so much I decided to buy something else. I had an old PC that needed a new OS, so I tried here first this time...& I was hooked. I really enjoy finding great stuff at good prices...& dealing with some of the nicest folks I could imagine...imagine, people on the internet--that'll never have to face you--treating his/her customer nicer than the grouchy/overburdened associate/clerk you might be in church with the next day. That's why I've posted my picture, you're dealing with a person...not a username...that's how I want to act & want to be treated. Some auctions I'll win, more I'll lose...but in the end it's not personal, it's bidding on auctions. It's all good to me, win or lose. |

Life on eBay
Every transaction I've had...except for a few people that don't read, or don't understand this is for real, costs me time and money to list, that the conditions for bidding I've come up with are for a reason, and they've agreed to a contract by bidding...have been very pleasant. My first prority is to deal with honorable folks...those with the higher feedback ratings. If you're a beginner let me know how to help you bid & close a transaction, that you'll need an accommodation in paying; please let me know before you bid. I'm easy to work with--up to a point if you respect me. It's a shame I need to point this out, but some folks are irresponsible & that makes it harder for everyone. The longer I've listed things to sell--or is it because ebay is attracting less responsible people?--the more...um, "difficult persons" I've had to deal with. No contact after sale, ignore terms of sale, don't pay for their auction, attempt to negotiate after they've won an auction, making disparaging remarks to me...the list keeps growing. I'm beginning to feel sorry for folks trying to earn an income on eBay because they HAVE to deal with the jerks and I don't. I'm a hobby-seller, I go out of my way to give high-quality post-sale interaction, so I'm able to monitor my auctions to cancel bids from people with feedback that indicates they are a real "difficulty". Currently I'm trying to liquidate my vinyl LP library, I have to keep them in the basement because there's no room for them. But as I'm culling I'm finding several that will only leave my cold dead hands; some folks have gotten real bargains on real classics & rarities...can't keep 'em all. Only a few will be kept because there will be more than enough that won't move, no matter how low the price. If you think about it all LPs are collectable because they're not made any more. I just wish someone would "collect" my only "Flock of Seagulls". From time to time some odd item will come along, books or jeans or "dust collectors", but for now the bulk of my listings will be vinyl LP albums. I pay fast, I ship same day--or next business day, and I ALWAYS leave feedback for folks that leave feedback for me. I know there are legitimate reasons people can't ship, pay, or leave feedback in the same manner; I understand & accept that, but there are no legitimate reasons for not contacting me after I buy something from or sell something to you. I can't leave feedback before I know the buyer is satisfied, but I reciprocate almost immediately when you do. I have always left feedback as soon as I examine my purchase & the transaction is satisfactory--I won't ambush you with the dreaded red mark without trying mightily to work it out. Look at my "Left For Others" feedback; only those with closed unpaid item disputes and no contact have ever gotten a negative from me; a couple have resolved the issue after closure and you won't find them on the list. If a person has made many transactions, it's possible that the person has a small proportion of neutral/negative feedbacks. That's what I look at...how they respond. Many negatives originate from people that are newer & don't yet understand the process, some are cranky folks that complain because they don't read the description of what they bid on, some flame out & become "no longer registered", & some are legitimate. I investigate the feedback on the person that leaves a negative to decide if it might be a crank, then I look at how the receiver responds. If it's with name-calling & character assasination...sorry-pass, hope you sell your stuff, but not to me. If there's a problem, contact the seller first; then contact the seller; then contact the seller; then use up all the other resolution methods before messing with another's feedback rating; same for the seller, try to be patient. But in the end, don't let bad-faith sellers (or buyers) get away with cheating. First...patience...then think of how we need to let each other know who to expect to be somewhat troublesome & who to avoid. Practice good citizenship values & this will stay a great place to find what you need/want/didn't know you needed or wanted it 'til now, sell & make money, or just a hobby. |
