Alaska Things and Dreams

Mt.Mckinley

    Hello and welcome to Talkeetna,

That is What every person we can say it to ,will hear, they walk through the doors of our Talkeetna Alaska store. We would also like to apply it to everyone who visits our online stores. To tell you a bit about me i have always loved crafts and creating things ,i deem as  art. I have always dreamed of a store of my own , where i could display my passion's. Now thanks to my husband and parrent's my dream has come true ,my very own place to display my dreams. Which is what my crafts are they aremy dreams realized .you could say they are what i invision.

My husband and I thought Alaska was just snow, ice, cold and dark. But the winters everywhere are  just as cold, with ice.And the sun goes down earlier as well. Alaska is just colder and darker than most, but it is a wonderfull place. Nature abounds as well ,the first time I saw a moose up close, it was standing outside of the living room window ,one night while we were watching television. Talk about a surprize ,it just had never hit me that nature was so close here .when we first arrived. Now animals and nature is second nature to us, as well as the lovely Mt. Mckinley. The mountain is out alot during the winters, and most of the summer. and it is rather awe inspireing to see. I lived in Utah and Texas my husband lived in Missouri and we thought we had seen mountians . Mckinley is breathtakeing ,wakeing up to it out the cabin window every morning is amazing. We look to the mountain for pleasure ,weather reports ,and inspiration at times. The earthquakes however, we could do without ,they may not hit often and may be light but they do acure here. But Alaska is an amazing and wonderfull place ,where the adventure finds you .whether you want it to or not. Everyone should spend at least a week here during there lifetime.

I began makeing Dreamcatchers when i was a young girl in Texas .I made them because i loved the idea of them. In case you dont know the meaning here it is in a nutshell.

While dreamcatchers originated in the Ojibwa Nation, during the pan-Indian movement of the 1960s and 1970s they were adopted by Native Americans of a number of different Nations. They came to be seen by some as a symbol of unity among the various Indian Nations, and as a general symbol of identification with Native American or First Nations cultures. However, other Native Americans have come to see them as "tacky" and over-commercialized. Traditionally, the Ojibwa construct dreamcatchers by tying sinew strands in a web around a small round or tear-shaped frame (in a way roughly similar to their method for making snowshoe webbing). The resulting "dream-catcher", hung above the bed, is then used as a charm to protect sleeping children from nightmares. The Ojibwa believe that a dreamcatcher filters a person's dreams. According to Terri J. Andrews in the article "Legend of the Dream Catcher," about the Ojibwa nation in the magazine World & I, Nov. 1998 page 204, "Only good dreams would be allowed to filter through . . . Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day."  Another legend (Lakota), according to St. Joseph's Indian School in Chamberlain, South Dakota, "Good dreams pass through the center hole to the sleeping person. The bad dreams are trapped in the web, where they perish in the light of dawn." Dreamcatchers being one of many items i enjoy createing. thank you for your time and interest i will have more to come later.
