**********Unless eBay changes it's forthcoming inane policies, I will neither buy nor sell on eBay anytime in the near future**********
Dear eBay,
This letter is to inform you that I am officially boycotting your site.
In a press response, you said "Buyers don't boycott eBay". I'm here to inform you, you are very incorrect. I am indeed a buyer on
eBay, and I am boycotting eBay.
We must inform you, the boycott was not for May 1st only. We have no intentions of returning to
eBay, until eBay makes a REAL change. The following grievances are our complaints against
eBay. Many of which, we believe are illegal actions on eBay/PayPal's part. We will be seeking injunctions against
eBay to determine whether these issues are indeed illegal.
Our grievances are as follows:
1. Feedback.
We agree that the feedback policies must change. We agree the ability to leave retaliatory feedback is wrong. However, to completely eliminate this option is wrong. You have opened the door for extortion. We do not trust
eBay to police this. We regret to say, eBay's track record is at best poor in this area.
2. DSR/Best Match
I see the value of DSRs. It helps keep me, the buyer, a bit more informed as to how others THINK the seller has performed.
However, to tie in DSRs to discounts, and to where items are listed is not reasonable. Especially since the old
adage is correct, "No matter how hard you try, you can't please all of the people all of the time".
This does not mean one should not try. But, let's face reality. Most of the best sellers are
eBay sellers. They value their feedback almost as much as they do the money they make.
The fact eBay is messing with this, is reason alone to boycott eBay. The claims this is for buyer protection is hardly sound thinking. The truth is,
eBay has no intentions of seeing great customer service for its members or the community. If this were the case, then
eBay would ditch the real risky sellers, and ditch this nonsensical idea, that only hurts sellers, and promotes powersellers, unfairly.
3. PayPal 21 Day Hold.
We will be seeking injunctions and legal action against eBay and PayPal here. your claims of "risky sellers" and "protecting the buyer" are ridiculous. We know the only reason for this is to earn interest on the sellers' money. Once again, old
adages bring the truth to light: "If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, and smells like a duck, it must be a duck".
PayPal acts like a bank, handles money like a bank, and certainly stinks like a bank.
4. PayPal Only.
Once again, we are actively seeking to stop this insanity. Your claims of "buyer protection" are untrue, and you know it. Your only interest here is to kill off any possible competition.
We have been in contact with Australia's ACCC in an attempt to prevent eBay's request for immunity in their country, countering your claims this is for "buyer protection". However, should
eBay demand exclusive rights, we will be more than happy to comply, should eBay also grant a waiver of ALL
PayPal fees, without extending it to eBay fees. This would prove your intentions are indeed altruistic, and not greed motivated.
5. Digital Downloads.
Once again, you delude yourselves in thinking the world will see this as a gregarious measure to aid buyers. No, this is an attempt to gain revenue. Digital downloads gain
eBay nothing in fees. Less than $1 per sale, and typically, 30 to 60 cents. eBay is never satisfied, with the enormous appetite for greed. Why get 30 cents per transaction, when you can get $10? At least have a modicum of decency to tell the truth for once. I'd have more respect for this company if you came out and said, "We're a bunch of greedy bastards, and we're unhappy getting 30 cents when we can get ten bucks".
6. Outrageous fees.
Its no secret your fees are outlandish. Its the greed factor. You won't be happy until you are receiving 100% of the final value. I truly and honestly believe that.
There has to be sanity in the fees. We're not unreasonable. We know it takes money to run
eBay, to make the upgrades necessary, and yes, to make a profit. We do not begrudge you this. But, at the same time, we must ask, WHY does
eBay insist on begrudging us? It isn't like eBay is number 1 with customer service. Although, you hypocritically demand better customer service from the sellers, than you would ever offer.
Isn't it strange that the worst customer service company ever demands perfection from those who already offer some of the best customer service? And yet,
eBay refuses to help its community, yet thinks it deserves yet another rate increase?
How to end the boycott.
1. Provide the same customer service you demand from us. Involve us in the major decisions that affect us.
i.e., listen to us, for real.
2. Change the feedback policy; but, with our input.
3. Quit stealing our money, and release the funds. If a seller is TRULY risky, kick them.
4. Keep the DSRs, but, don't tie them to searches.
5. Get control of your greed. We do 100% of the work at our end. You offer us 20% service, by providing us the space, the engineers, and the employees. But, there are other services that are now providing phone support, and actually take our suggestions to heart, and offer REAL support. And yet one listing on
eBay costs more than to list an entire month of unlimited listings there.
