THE OUTLAW CREED...
(and out in the fringe, we're all outlaws....)

...Life is both short and tough. Hold your guns high and regret nothing......

About Those Dammed Fringe Dwellers...
(also known as Angie and Dave Phillips)

THE VIEW OF LIFE FROM THE FRINGE.....

Let's see...Who am I and what would you like to know about me?? about Dave??? about US???.....

What makes us create? What makes us decide what to create? And why in the world do I constantly paint dead trees? And why does Dave paint those roads off into the distance??? I shall attempt to answer these and other burning questions here on this page..

First of all I'll address myself, Angie Phillips.

"I was born with a third eye..... but still I am blind to the truth".....

All my life I have seen images of places that I know, that I am familiar with, in those rare, beautiful moments between awake and asleep. To say they've haunted me would be an understatement, I've found old notebooks with my scribbles of these scenes and trees going back as far as I can remember.
Each painting represents something specific I have seen or thought about in that surreal time of "here and there". What am I seeing in those moments? The past? The present, the future? A different place? The other side? .....I have no idea. But the images are there all the time, and I have sketched and now paint them in a pathetic attempt to capture it and make sense of it all.

My Background.....
Originally from Toronto Canada, I have been an artist in one way or another most of my adult life.

Stained glass....
My initial background is in stained glass, and I have been a stained glass artist for over 20 years, and it is truly one of my favorite mediums and always will be. I have had an endless fascination with the way light moves through glass, both by day and night, and there is a warmth, beauty and harmony to working with glass that I get from no other medium quite the same way.
My work has appeared in designer showhouses in Omaha, Nebraska, as well as participting in several exhibitions. I have had work in several local galleries over the years, and sold to private collections. I currently am involved in projects for my own home, a 135 year old historical home that was built originally by the mayor of Council Bluffs back in 1877. I pour my heart and soul into projects for this home that are worthy of it's beauty & ageless grace. (I should look so good at 130 years)......

Metal Sculpture.....
Metal sculpture will always been one of my passions that I must return to when time permits. I studied techniques at Metro Community College in Omaha, under the amazing artistic talents of Peggy Ritschel and I have completed works that have been purchased for private collections, have participated in several art shows and art exhibitions locally. I love both mig and acetylene equally. Welding steel is magnificent and powerful, welding copper is elegant and musical and it's impossible for me to choose between the two. I have completed collaborations with metal and stained glass as well.

Clay Sculpture...
Self taught in Clay scupture, I return to it again and again. Working with clay is like working with a living thing, and my passion is clay relief. I have created Lion's heads and gargoyle reliefs that currently grace another historical home in Council Bluffs. I have created collaborations on giant mirrors adorned with clay heads with my husband, and use it often in my mixed media pieces that appear here and there along with my painting listings on ebay, and basically just whenever the mood takes me. It's the time, people, it's finding the time to do everything we want to do and still have a life... that endless stuggle for the most valuable asset in the world... TIME!!!

My Paintings...
I have sold over 250 paintings on Ebay alone, and my feedback speaks for itself (please feel free to check out my feedback!)
I have sold my paintings to every single state in the US, as well as internationally to Canada, Australia, Italy, Japan, England, France, Portugal, Denmark, Israel, Hong Kong and a few more I can't remember right now. Some artists list their feedback on this page, however if you'd like to see it, please feel free to check all of it out - my feedback speaks for itself!!!
One thing I must clarify: I paint the trees not dead but BARE because without the leaves they are exposed and I can see their true form, their true beauty, much like when we let our guard down and let our true "souls" show. We only do this with those we know well, of course, and those moments are rare to say the least, but it is those moments that I think about again and again. When I paint the trees bare of leaves, I can paint them in all their true beauty, flaws and all.

...and now for Dave..... my husband, best friend and fellow artist pal for 20 years now......

Dave is one of those people who sees life a little differently, which is probably why I love him so. Always a rebel, he's done everything from bizarre metal scultpure animals that lurk here and there among our trees outside, (scaring the people who peek, shocked, over the bushes and get a look at just what we're up to now), to....well.... too many weird art projects to name here. On Halloween kids seldom come to our old, 130 year old spooky house because it scares them unless we stand outside with the candy and reassure them that nothing frightening will attack them.... (but then again, we kinda like it that way).

Dave is an accomplished sculpture, painter, furniture designer, landscaper and his poured 3-D reliefs have never made it to ebay, they can't, they're sold before they are finished.

Daves paintings most often involve roads, going off into the distance. He sees life as a road we all travel on, our paths sometimes crossing, sometimes not, sometimes we run parallel and never meet, and sometimes the crossing leaves us damaged, bruised and torn. And sometimes we meet up with others who take that journey with us.....

Dave and I have been through the very best of times, the very worst of times (like all of us - who hasnt?) and all of these experiences, (including those that I can't or won't mention), is what drives us to create; to express our life-time of thoughts and always, always, our unusual, bold, vibrant way of saying our own statements about life.

We express our lives, dreams and thoughts in all of it's glorious splendor and deepest sorrows.

We were driven to create, are STILL driven to create, and now....if you would like to take a peek, we can enjoy it all together.

                                  Sincerely~ Angie & Dave Phillips
