Hello, and thank you for stopping by. You are probably here because you love animals! Using my art to help them, is my passion in life.... my 'calling'.
Please search AUAR to see the listings for the new group Artists United for Animal Rescue, and there is a link to it's website at the bottom of this page. Thanks!
People who have my art...Ellen Degeneres, Ben Stein, William Shatner, Robert Vavra, Bo Derek, The Estate of James A. Michener, the Wrigley and DuPont Families, Fleur Cowles, Barnaby Conrad and so many more! During the next 1-2 years, I hope to put together a book of my animal paintings and some short stories (true ones!) about the amazing animals I have been priviledged to know in my life.
PLEASE SEE THE LINK BELOW FOR MY DAILY PAINTING BLOG
I just found out that some Africa art I did during the time I was illustrating the Vavra book "The Unicorn of Kilimanjaro" will be used in a new coffee-table book, "Alive in Africa" by Wm. Wheeler, Jr, coming out in September from Lyon's Press, ISBN 13 978-1-59921-402-3. The book chronicles Wheeler's life among the Masai and Efe Pygmies and his time in the Rift Valley.
I have illustrated two coffee-table books for Robert Vavra, have my art in the permanent collection of The Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, and I am on the Arizona Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. I am one of the original Charter Members of the National Museum in D.C. Recently, I joined a very talented group of artists, The Equine Art Guild. I am also very proud to say that I am on the Art Team as a contributing artist for "Le Cadeau Du Cheval" (The Horse Gift) Horse Mural Project in Alberta, Canada. This mural is made up of many smaller paintings by artists from all over the world. When the panels are displayed together, they create a large equine image. My panel is of Lady and Prince, the two lovely Morgan horses owned by Almanzo Wilder, husband of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Researching for this art has been an adventure! Because of it I have gotten to correspond so far with Dean Butler, who played Almanzo on Little House on the Prairie, and Rachael Lindsay Greenbush, on of the twins who played little Carrie!
I have two lives as an artist...the one that deals with galleries, invitationals and interior designers, and the one that is self-representing on eBay. I love and appreciate eBay so much! It has given me the freedom with my art that I have always wanted.
I have been painting since I was 16 years old and rescuing animals for all of my life. I always wanted a way to really use my art to help animals, and it is eBay that gives me this ability now. I hold charity auctions of my art with anywhere from 10% to 100% of the net proceeds donated to various animal charities. I do this both independently, meeting all of eBay's criteria for such auctions, and I do it through my eBay group, Artists United for Animal Rescue, and through eBay's "Giving Works". I am selling all sizes of animal art - mostly originals and sometimes giclee prints. I paint in oils most of the time. My subject matter on eBay is primarily equine and canine, but not limited to those. For galleries I paint frontier themes and figurative work as well.
I welcome inquiries about commissions for custom work. You can write me by clicking on 'ask seller a question' on any listing of mine, or email me at mitchmts@yahoo.com. Thanks! I work out of my Mountain Tribe Studio, which I have had since 1978. It has moved with me from California to South Dakota to Arizona. I live up high in the mountains at The Promise Animal Sanctuary, where my daughter and I privately support and care for rescued animals. Mustangs and other horses, dogs, cats, exotic birds, rodents... quite an assortment... Most of them have special needs - both physical and emotional - and are permanent residents. A few are on palliative hospice care. We will be applying for our not-for-profit status as soon as we are financially able to do so. Going non-profit is very complicated but it is what we need to do.
