I get that a lot. So, it's like this...I am a collector of things. Not just things but things that strike me in some way or other. Whether it be a "bauble" or worthless trinket to some or a "bijou" or priceless jewel...it doesn't matter. That is the meaning behind my ebay user ID in a nutshell.
About me...I have no clue where to start but here goes. I was born the 3rd daughter of poor mountain people that had to walk 10 miles to school uphill both ways. Oh yeah...and barefoot. Haha. That is MOSTLY true but I'll fastforward a bit.
My love of art was likely instilled very early in life. I was probably 4 when my Mom bought a set of encyclopaedias. My older sister and I discovered the "P" volume that had fabulous color plates of paintings. I still recall looking at Monets, Van Goghs, Picassos, Dalis, Renoirs, and so many others sitting by her side. We studied those colorful glossy pages intently. My mother's other contribution, but in noway less meaningful, is that she would bring home a stack of thin cardboard sheets occasionally. She worked in a hosery mill and when a "run" was finished, the left over cardboard used in the packaging was given away. We three were estatic. I hate none of my art was good enough for Mom to have saved (hehe). My sister and I also loved paperdolls and made clothes for them more often than not. I remember designing dresses from whatever kind of paper we could find. And, yes, a lot of the dresses were striped. LOL. We did usually have that "blue horse" notebook paper on hand. Those were the days.
My love for art continued through high school. I worked part-time in a needlework and frameshop. What a job! I, now, was into textiles and art. Alas, the only art classes I took were in high school. Then came the first college years and then real life - working for a living. And partying. And, well, being the typical 21 year old on her own, I didn't take time to create. At 25, I got married. Landscaping, gardening, cooking, and redecorating became my passion. My love for art never waned but my priorities were more "housewifely" and, I feel, certainly as creative.
More recently, my husband of almost 20 years and I separated. I moved temporarily to southern Mississippi working with my oldest sister. If I tell ya' what I did I'd have to kill ya'. I will tell you I was known as Julie. Sorry, I digressed. Anyway, Hurricane Katrina set sis's business back to say the least. And it was time for me to move on with my life. Now...I am back in my stomping grounds (more or less) in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western NC and gainfully employeed. It was fairly much in this later time span that I decided to get back into art and creating in general. Most recently I have been into acrylics. First, I painted mostly large paintings testing the paints - ways of applying, sanding, layering, waxing, you name it, and, my most recent obsession, creating Artist's Trading Cards. "ACEO" if you need to ebay search it. These miniatures are more challenging than the super sized canvases I was accustomed to painting. I sell a few. I give away more than a few. I do have a few favorites, canvases and ACEOs, I am glad I kept and there are a few I wish I had back. Oh well...
So that is prolly as much about me you want to hear...uhmmm, errrrrrr...read. Tell me about you.
