LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY

 VIRGINIA. MY FATHER WAS STATIONED THERE :WITH THE NAVY. HE WAS CHIEF MEDICAL OFFICER ABOARD A U.S.SUBMARINE. WE WERE  ASSIGNED TO EVERY NAVAL BASE ON THE EAST COAST;FROM MAINE TO KEY WEST.WHILE GROWING-UP IN ALL THESE PLACES;THERE WERE MANY ADVENTURES.      

BORN IN NEW YORK; LIVING THERE THE FIRST TWO YEARS DID NOT TOTALLY PREPARE ME FOR THE WONDERS OF THE DEEP SOUTH WITH ALL OF THE MANSIONS; NOR THE PRISTINE BEAUTY OF NEW ENGLAND AT THE SHORE.; THE LIGHTHOUSES OF MAINE -KITTY HAWK , N.C.Palm TREES WITH REAL COCONUTS!    wILLIAMSBURG,VIRGINIA.THERE WAS SOOO MUCH TO SEE ,DO AND LEARN.

DURING SUMMER I WAS SENT HOME TO ALSO LEARN ABOUT THE CITY. IT IS A WONDERLAND ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.SUMMERS END AND BACK TO MY PARENTS CURRENT STATION. THE LADIES OF THE AREA TOLD ME WHERE TO GO TO TAKE DANCE LESSONS; SUTHERN STYLE TEAS WERE GIVEN. FANCY PARTIES WHERE I HAD TO BEHAVE!

FIRST GRADE WAS IN KEY WEST,FLORIDA.THERE I BECAME A PROFESSIONAL RADIO SINGER-AT 6.O.K.PRO. ONLY MEANS I WAS PAID ; I WAS; AN ICE CREAM CONE FOR NOT TRIPPING ON WIRES AND RUINING THE STUDIO!

also: skated- danced - climbed trees -fished -

rode horses - made jewelry ,even then- cheerleader- choir - stayed busy with friends.

18 and feeling grown - up got married. seemed better than college at the time.

we lived in D.C. ;had parties in georgetown.

Worked as accountant - had math credits.

Switched to department manager in retail store. A lot of work , a lot of  new people to meet.

we eventually had kids.I went to college .

WELCOME TO MY HOME TOWN

THIS IS THE PLACE MOST FAMILIAR TO ME;Welcome

Now that every-one has a good idea of the city at night;allow me a short day tour.

My city ,summer version; consisted of trips to the Bronx Zoo; Carvel ice cream;trips to Montauk Point-outermost place on long island;  The Empire State Bld'g I only saw when visitors came to town; it is fun-don't miss it when you go;and you really must visit : it is amazing!

Do all the tourist things; you could leearn as much about the City in a week,as naives know in a lifetime. We don't usually do the traveling bit ; rather live in a sall world with eight million other people living in their small worlds. We only appear snobby and unaproachable; ask for directions and we will do all but take you there.The City is so contradictory that to explain it is not something any New Yorker would do. Besides ; who cares? That is a City way of looking at all things.

In the time of summers and later prep. school there the attitude seeped through my skin.Fun did as well. Love of all things beautiful I learned in the City.Music,art -in all of its' forms,nature is my art teacher-the City is full of gardens- each part has large and small gardens of all types. On your trip you will visit them.Tall buildings are where we work or attend school, art is the heart of the City.

Museums are every where. Some are called that, others are buildings, trees passed by millions each week,all together the City is a    museum.The Churches , Libraries,Stores ; even the subway and people .....Museum or movie , maybe a bit of both.
