My Mom has been retired for several years now, though she worked well beyond the years most of us must work. So, I thought my interest in computers, more time to explore E-Bay and Mom's talents, we would both begin an adventure. Anything that is not handmade you will know I've listed myself. I tried to knit a pullover vest in high school, gosh so long ago. The results were a "front" with a hole in it where a hole should not be! Mom asked about my vest project and I had to tell her I pulled it all apart. She asked why? I responded, it had a hole in it. Mom said that I'd "dropped" a stitch and she could have shown me how to "pick" it up. Oh well, I'll end the saga of the vest here. I've never developed my Mom's talents but I do admire them. I thought listing some of Mom's items on E-bay would give others the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate them too. Plus provide Mom with a little more spending money.
Myself, I find e-bay very interesting and fun. Please feel confident in what I list for both Mom and myself. My Mom does not own a computer. She has no desire to learn the new technology. She instilled in me the same high values that she herself possesses. I try to be honest, factual and not misleading in the listings I enter. I always ask Mom what stitch was this made with or is it crocheted or knitted, check measurements and list the prices for her. The items shown are the exact items you will receive.
My Mom learned to crochet at the young age of 8 years old from her Grandmother (my great grandma <smile>). So, since I know her age but dare not tell even though Mom sure doesn't look her age, she's been crocheting for many, many, many years. Mom blocks her doilies so they are ready to use in your home. I will include her directions should you need to freshen your doily in the future. Using her directions, your doily will always remain pretty for many years to come.
I've recently returned to leather crafting as a hobby. I could never master the wonderful talents my Mom possesses with crocheting, though I enjoy making things. It has been many years since I worked with leather products, so I'm basically starting as a beginner again.
I'm listing some of the items I'm making as I learn and grow back into the craft. So I don't profess to be an expert! However, Mom and I want your buying experience from us to be a pleasant one. If you do purchase a leather item from me, if you are unhappy with it once received, simply email me, return the item and I'll provide you with a full refund. We value our rating on Ebay and our buyers' satisfaction.
Ok, I'd promised to tell you how Mom acquired the name "Meme" by the grandchildren and great grandchildren. It all began when my oldest neice, who just turned 36 years old began talking. Her first attempt at pronouncing "grandma" came out "memaw". Gradually over time and with the input of my nephews attempting the same, Mom became "Meme" to all the Grandkids and Great Grandkids. She is tickled to have that special name bestowed upon her by her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. It means as much and more than them calling her "Grandma". My Dad isn't called Grandpa either, all of the kids gave him the endearing name of "papa". The same endearing name we called our Grandfathers when we were much younger. We being my sister, brother and myself.
I just wanted to say thank you to all of you who have bought and expressed such lovely comments regarding Mom's doilies. My Mom isn't pretentious or boastful but very down to earth as we say in our family. When I pass on the comments to her, her face turns a little red and she says "Is that right, well I'll be". She's delighted and speechless at the same time, so thank you all for taking the time to let Mom know how much you appreciate her creations.
Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions about our listings or to offer assistance regarding E-bay.
Note: I was talking to my Mom today and she told me when I stop using my doilies, wash them (with her instructions) and DO NOT starch for storing. The starch can deteriorate the doilies when they are STORED for a lengthy period of time. I'll revise her care instructions to include this information in the future. This came up during a conversation we had regarding changing the doilies I have in my living room (which my Mom made of course <smile>)
Update: 7/30/08 I'll be listing Mom's doilies once again within the next two weeks. Mom and I have been busy getting her settled in with me the past few months. My Dad passed away a year ago. When their lease was up for renewal at their apartment, Mom decided to live with me. I love having Mom here with me and I bought her a new 3 wheel bike to navigate the bike paths here. Dad's wish was for her to live with me when he left for Heaven. Dad always did know best... :-)
Thank You
