 February 20-21, 2008 - Total Eclipse
Less than six months after the last total lunar eclipse, another occurs overnight Feb. 20-21. The eclipse will favor much of North America during convenient evening hours, while Europeans will be able to enjoy a view of the darkened moon before it sets.
Totality will last for less time than usual (50 minutes), as the moon slides to just within the southern portion of the Earth's umbra, perhaps leading to a potentially bright total phase highlighted by a brighter southern limb. Adding to this spectacle, Saturn and the bright star Regulus will be close to the totally eclipsed moon, forming a broad triangle.

Daughter and her husband have been longing for another dachshund because they've so enjoyed their chocolate doxie (born Jun-04), so during Thanksgiving week, they went to look at a litter and selected a darling little black and tan girl who told them her name was Nikki. She's from a litter of five born on Oct-20-07. Since the pups weren't quite old enough to go to their new homes, daughter and son-in-law returned to pick her up on Sun-Dec-02. Well...three of the other pups had already left for their new homes and Nikki was going to go home to my daughters' but, gosh, it seemed so sad to leave her little red brother behind. He'd not found a home yet. Well, guess who came home with Nikki? :) His name is Sonny.

MACY IN COMPETITION

Often called the 'equestrian triathlon,' Eventing evolved over the centuries from the military tradition of testing for the ideal chargers for war. The sport was aptly named 'The Militaire' in its earliest days and, in fact, for the first 12 years as an Olympic sport (1912-1924), only military officers on military horses could compete.
The purpose of the sport was to test the precision, elegance, and obedience of the army horse on the parade ground; the stamina and courage of the horse in battle; and finally proving the fitness of the horse after the previous difficulties.
Composed of three phases, an Event begins with Dressage which tests the horse's discipline, obedience, concentration, and ability to respond to the fine movements of the rider directing the horse to complete very specific movements on the flat at very specific points in a Dressage arena. The horse must be supple, agile, and calm and the rider's directions to the horse via legs, rein movement, and weigh shifting must be nearly inperceptible.
Cross Country is composed of a number of solidly built jumping and water obstacles that the horse has never seen before over a large open area. The goal is to complete the course without jumping faults (refusals, run-outs) or time faults (too fast or too slow). The rigorous challenges test the horse's stamina, strength, courage, and jumping ability. The rider must be consumately aware of pacing and options that may be available on course for a successful completion. At the highest levels of Eventing, Roads & Tracks is added to the Cross Country phase.
In the third test, the horse and rider compete in a Show Jumping arena with break-away jumps. The horse and rider are to navigate the prescribed course in correct order, without refusals, run-outs, or dropped rails, in the quickest possible time. After the fine refinements of Dressage and the big, bold, exhausting Cross Country course, Show Jumping assures that the horse still has energy and remains supple, accurate and obedient.
In Eventing, men and women of all ages compete equally in divisions ranging from Pre-Novice (beginners) through CCI**** International Events (Olympics).

FOR THE LOVE
OF GUESS

Watch a colt be born. Love him. Nurture him.

Teach him
how to be a gentleman.

Teach him
how to be an athlete.

Watch a talented
young rider
who is ready
to move up.

And you get this...

And this...
Then open the dictionary
and find this as the definition
of love and joy!
