The Theme of my store would have to be first, Modern Primative Tribal, yes it's my own term. I began in scrimshaw at age 11, yankee style, Eskimo style. I have gone beyond those with pen and ink studies, and a carving 3D style of scrimhaw, recently developing my BoneHeadz, the most Tribal theme.
Pen and Ink resulting from Study of Design for Scrim.
Scrimshaw taken to the "Modern Primative"...BoneHeadz...Tiki Style
I began as a scrimshaw artist at 11 years old. I was working as a "go-fer" at the "House of Gifts", in New Bedford, MA. The owner, John DeMello, became more of a friend then a boss, and asked me one day if I'ld like to learn the Art(story-telling of whalers' using hand engraving, carving, etc., As well as the Eskimo style, which uses a great deal of spiritualism, and tradition)... Well... I never looked back.
Over the years I have sub-contracted to work handles for "Schrade" knives... Ghosting for Bill Feeney. I was the mystery artist for years at Pier 49, in Maui, Hawaii. Went on to work for The First Scrimshaw Co., and some misc., wholesaling on Cape Cod, where I lived for several years. And... I was co owner/operator of Anchor Beauty Salon, in Dennisport, Ma.... and on and on...lol.
