The profits I glean from these sales fund a private ministry of mine called Serendipity Unlimited. The title means the finding of an unexpected treasure of unlimited value. The people I target in this ministry are those who have made mistakes in their lives and have become incarcerated. One day many of them will be released from prison and will re-enter our society. Has the prison system been able to rehabilitate them during their stay? Unfortunately, many prisons can do little more than warehouse these people until their sentence is finished! The re-entry rates for ex-offenders can reach as high as 75% within as little as a year after their initial release! They go back in because they have committed another crime against you and me.
The only kind of rehabilitation to have a significant effect on that re-entry rate are religious programs that come back in month after month or week after week. I am a chaplain and I have been entering prisons doing repetitive religious programming for the past 17 years! One particular program I've been associated with in Florida has a documented reduction of the re-entry rate from 75% down to less than 20% for repeat offenders in one year!!
The costs of doing ministry have increased just as the damages done to society have gone up. Now we need an additional source of funding, so we can continue to turn those who have made mistakes into citizens, who are more interested in helping than hurting.
