Hi! I am Janice Scott-Reeder and I own the Cosmic Salamander down here in South Florida, the Hurricane Central and Mosquito Land. My shop and home are located on the Hillsboro Canal leading from the Everglades (our fancy name for swamp) to the Atlantic Ocean. Our building is nicely haunted, the area is an ancient hunting and camping ground, and our neighbors are just plain strange. But we've been here for over 20 years so we are used to each other. The area is still a bit wild with raccoons, opossums, iguanas, alligators, snakes, lizards and rare birds. We are down the block from a funeral home and a nature preserve. We are also located on a natural vortex through which strange things drop out periodically. I have seen an African desert lizard, had a cat materialize out of thin air and jump into my arms, had whirlwinds of butterflies and seen a strange hairy biped. The area is populated by the largest iguanas I've ever seen in my life and I lived in Latin America! Thank the Goddess they are vegetarians. I am descended from a line of Scottish psychics and Druids on my mother's side. I have no idea how far back we go but I do know all the women in her family were psychics of some kind until my generation diluted the blood line. Every morning Grandma would have her morning cup of coffee. Back in those days, coffee was perked without filters and you got grounds. She would study the grounds in her cup and tell us what would happen that day. Was she accurate? I remember her making up the guest rooms one morning and that afternoon my Uncle's house burned down and they all moved in with us. She got into an argument about my father coming home with my mother and sure enough, he showed up after lunch just as predicted. My mother could tell you exactly when you were going to die and she was accurate to the minute. She couldn't tell you how or where. My father was also psychic. I remember him refusing to board an airplane one night and it crashed on take off. I asked him about it and he said you couldn't argue with Fate. Oddly, less than 1/3 of the people who had bought tickets actually made it onto that plane. Some were stuck in traffic (that late at night?), some got lost in the terminal and some just decided not to go. Then there were the last minute people who did get on who hadn't planned to. He said if it were meant to be, it would happen. Listen to your gut and his said to take a later plane. Some people thought he lived a charmed life because he avoided accidents and death constantly. It was because he knew what was going to happen and just didn't show up for the event. I have been known to do the same thing. I've slammed on brakes for no reason and had a car fly out of a side street and thus, miss me by inches. From my grandmother and aunts I learned the power of prediction, how to see and communicate with spirits, charm animals and astral project. My father traveled constantly and he drug my mother and I with him. I found a school picture the other day and for the life of me, I can't remember what state it was in or what year. That's how many schools I attended. He also took us throughout Latin America. Only I learned speak Spanish and had to interpret for them. I also had a lot of free time as I often wasn't enrolled in school. I always had a guard or a governess and they quickly learned I was not only a Bruja but I knew how to use my abilities. They figured out how to market me and paid me in candy. It's no wonder I have a life long battle with weight. At five, I learned to read cards from dear old Aunt Lupe. My parents had no idea what I was doing while she babysat me. By seven, I was in yet another country and this time I learned Santeria from my maid. At eight my driver turned out to be a Voodoo doctor and he was intent upon killing all of us. The spell came back on him, with a little help from me, and he didn't survive: a truck ran over him just as I broke his fetish. That established my reputation and I became a little priestess of Dumballah, the snake Loa. I chose that Loa because it involved no animal sacrifice and I just could not harm any animal. When we finally settled down in Florida, I displayed a talent for science and math, graduating a year early and attending college. I never intended to be a professional psychic. I was a bookkeeper for the largest newspaper chain in the country. Then I had an accident. I still swear something grabbed my ankles and pulled my feet out from under me. The pain was horrible and finally a friend suggested a psychic healer. She never touched me, asked me anything or, I thought, even noticed I was there but the second night I attended services my pain was cut in half and suddenly she took my hand and led me to the front of the temple. She handed me a basket of jewelry and said, "Read". People immediately wanted my phone number, prices and an appointment. They chased me down and hounded me until I gave into doing readings. I even tried pricing myself out of the market. Didn't work. The next day I received a letter of termination from my job. Seems the doctor treating not only forgot to file my insurance but forgot I was his patient when they called to confirm my injuries. They thought I was faking it. When I took him to task, he looked perplexed and asked if I had really wanted the job. Sure, you just throw a career away after you have gotten a nice promotion and raise working for the Fortune Five Hundred Company and know you are set for life! Well, that's what happened. For the next three years I read and lectured at Temple of the Cosmos for Rev. Marie Knight. She even insisted I become an ordained reverend, though I was a little shaky about it knowing I was a Druid. I finished my studies of astrology and became a professional reader. I became involved in alternative health practices and selling biofeedback equipment. I've never been satisfied with the woo-woo explanations. I like science. I wanted to know how and why things worked. One day a psychiatrist suggested I come to work for him as a biofeedback therapist and I decided, why not. I learned hypnosis and spent the next 9 years working with him and going to college to get my degrees. His wife was into crystals and minerals and together we browsed the rock shops and I learned about crystal healing before it was popular. I also learned jewelry and gemstones. I graduated with honors and was on my way to finishing my Masters in Experimental Psychology - one course and presenting my paper - when I came down with just about the rarest form of cancer and the professor I worked for died. I spent the next year recovering and once again, the Universe put me back into the psychic field. I went to England and Scotland to explore my heritage and discover more about the cancer I had - it's genetic - and wound up doing readings. I have concluded there is no escape and the Universe doesn't need to hit me in the head three times. My Momma didn't raise a stupid kid, just a stubborn one. This is what I am intended to do and this is what I shall do and am just too old to change my ways. As Sybil Leek once told me, you are a powerful Druid and psychic why would you want to be anything else. I guess I'm just plain contrary some days. I am also an animal lover and cats are my favorite. I tame feral cats, neuter and spay them and then they stay with me. I even have three feral shop cats, all of who have some psychic ability. Ra the Sun Goddess reads runes or at least she chooses them. Isis is a medium and goes into trance. Loki, well, he just sits around and looks handsome. Some days I think they eat all my profits and some days, I know they do. They are very demanding. They need their self empting electric sand pan. They have to have the most expensive electric water fountain you can by on Ebay. They want one of those custom collars but I have put my foot down. I'll probably be emptying my Paypal account next week for one. Isis prefers green. I just need figure out how to reincarnate as my own cat. That would be a good life. In addition to doing readings, running the shop and catering to the feline population, I am also an avid crafter. Truthfully, I am really Scottish. I hate to part with a buck and I hate to see anything go to waste. So, I make something out of it. I also love the practice of Magick. There is nothing better than a well cast circle for a good buzz. So I combine the two and make products and spell kits. Another aspect of my magickal life has to do with elementals and the other realms. Grandmother taught me to see fairies and pixies as a child and gave me my very own fairy as a companion. I also had a few run-ins with other creatures like trolls. Although my husband has never seen my fairy companion, he will testify to his existence as he has seen what he can do. One afternoon, my husband dropped a nut into the engine of our only car. The only choice is to take the whole engine apart which we had neither the ability to do nor the money to pay someone to do. So I asked my fairy to get it out of the engine. My husband was sitting on steps considering how he was going to get to work when he heard something fall next to him. There sat the nut and the car still runs. My elemental is the salamander and I actually had one burn its imprint into the wooden ceiling of a building we lived in. They are fire spirits. I know that seems weird for a Pisces, but I have no real affinity with water although four of my planets are in water signs. My Mars and Venus are in Aries so my strength is in controlling fire elementals. For those of you involved in the Nature vs. Nurture debate, consider this. My Scottish ancestors were psychics. My English ancestors were all doctors and jewelers. My German ancestors were cattle breeders and I bred champion Siamese and Manx cats for a while. I'm not sure what my Native American ancestors were doing except getting cheated by the government- Hey that sounds familiar, too! I think nature just won! I have studied just about every aspect of the Occult at some time or the other. As a Druid, our primary mission in life is using what we learn. It is genetically imprinted in me. The moment a new piece of information comes my way and I try to figure out what to do with it. Thus, not only do I know a lot about Magick, but I am always working on improving and refining the techniques. One thing I learned from Sybil Leek is that the time of inception is important. Thus, my creations are timed for the maximum effect. It is always easier to launch a boat with the outgoing tide! For example, my Papa Legba dolls are made during Friday and Saturday. His clay face is sculpted at midnight, fired at noon, painted at dusk and I actually crawl out of bed at dawn for the final dedication and naming. I am Scottish, so the spirit or energy must be drawn into each object in a naming ceremony. I have learned that an object can be imprinted at the proper time and then stored for use when it is needed if you do it right. Thus I can start the "spell", suspend and store the action, and then you complete the final step releasing the energy when you need it. I have also learned that in an emergency, any time can be used if you manipulate the intent. For example let's say you need money for the electric bill but it is the Full Moon! Money spells are done during the New Moon period, as the Moon increases. So, you can call the power company and explain you need two weeks grace until you can do the spell - and I guarantee you will learn the value of candles at night - or you can alter the spell into a decreasing Moon removal spell. You can cast a spell to remove the blocks keeping you from the money you need. Logic is an important part of magick. I also design and make radionics devices or orgone accumulators. Tesla postulated there were two forms of orgone (Chi, Prana, Life Force, etc.) energy: positive and negative. Negative orgone energy is visible on clear days in the sky as those dirty, wispy black clouds that hold no moisture. It is created from pollutants. The orgone accumulator attracts all orgone energy and traps and stores the negative energy allowing the positive to pass through. Using a mathematical model, my electronics engineer and real Tesla expert husband considers innovative, I design devices that catch the bad energy and emit the good energy within specific desires: health, wealth, clearing or love. In other words, I design devices for a specific purpose using Tesla and Wilheim Reich's designs but manipulating them with herbs and minerals and adding a few Indian sacred geometry designs. I knew being math major would come in handy some day. Just as an aside, most people think the aura or life energy around things is a blanket like thing and they should view it that way. The Indian texts state it is a light body around the physical body. That is a mistranslation. It should read lights around the body. The Prana is constantly sparking and real psychics view it as a constant pool of sparkling energy flowing around and through everything. What happens is as a baby develops, at first, it can only see silhouettes. Then, like magic one day, it can see inside the outline and recognize faces. At around the same time, it begins to filter. You know how when you look through a screen or glass, the screen and glass disappear and you just see what is beyond them. That is not because your eye doesn't see them, it is because your brain filters them out. Many psychics, like me, never develop the filter. I have to look through the holes in the screen and just for the record, I do not appreciate that heavy black screen some idiot developed to block sunlight. Thus, I see the prana or orgone energy constantly sparking. I have never seen darkness. My world is filled with constantly shifting light patterns like looking through a clear, sequined curtain with electrical sparks. My world is also filled with noise and never quiet. As the light patterns shift, so does the volume and frequency of background noise I hear. Thus, I can adjust the accumulators, magickal objects and spells as needed. I can see and hear the energy. So can the other two psychics I count as my best friend; James Garland and Martha. So I'm not as weird as you think. Maybe that's not quite right but I'm not alone with this phenomena. This also allows us to see spirits and to see if objects are haunted. And, yes, it also allows us to see and feel if something is evil, good or benign. It also allows us to transmute or exorcise the energy, but not without cost to ourselves. All Magick carries a price in energetic terms. What you do is returned to you at least three fold, more if the Universe is feeling generous. Keep in mind the Universe only knows energy, not good and bad, so it will return the good and bad without conscience. Like attracts like. Whenever Like attracts the Opposite, there is Karma involved and lastly, when you have learned or recognized your karma, cut your losses and move on. You were not put here to endlessly repeat the same pattern. You were put here to learn.
Read the books, watch the videos and listen to the CD's but keep in mind they are just the engine of knowledge. The teacher is the battery and without the battery, the engine just sits there.
