Welcome
"Big-Picture Drumming"
Doc MacNab is a professional drummer who currently does live and studio work in New York City and Seattle. His grooves are elegant and enhancing, but out of the way of the melody. In an effort to emulate his heroes--well-known session players like Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jeff Porcaro and Jim Keltner--Doc approaches his musical situation with an ear toward the "big picture," the whole song and to support the melody at all times.
Doc's mission is to give songwriters, soloists, engineers and producers an tasteful rhythmic performance every time he's called. Since the drummer's role is one of support, to be the foundation upon which the entire project rests, he/she should strive to be professional in attitude and work ethic, and a pleasurable instrumentalist to work with.
Always learning, Doc is currently a student of jazz master, Joe Morello, once-drummer of the Dave Brubeck Quartet. Doc lives and works in New York City, as well as Seattle, and his work includes large and small regional, national and international performances in many modern musical styles, both recorded and on-stage. MacNab grew up learning to play in public school music programs and later studied percussion at the University of North Carolina, but has likewise been exposed to and studied musical styles from all over the world. Doc is also a professional member of the Percussive Arts Society.
A huge music fan, Doc MacNab has been described as a great listener who adds taste, power and fun to his grooves. His rhythmic background is deep and rich in global percussion traditions and Doc has played in projects of styles such as rock, funk, Latin pop, swing, rockabilly, metal, indie, reggae, R&B, Hip-Hop, alternative/post-punk, Americana, progressive and blues.
