Folk Artist - Muralist, CAROL LEE

The Door Dame.....Forever DOORS

I grew up in an art gallery...my Mother having been a very fine artist... As a child, I went to art galleries all over the world..what a wonderful experience!

Where did I get the name DOOR DAME ?

In my studio, I had an old door leaning against the wall..and one day when I was getting ready to begin a new project, I contemplated how I should get that old door out of the studio..then I remembered a phrase my Father used to say...Honey, when one door closes, another one opens. Having just lost a very special friend, I was very down in the dumps... so, loooking at the door, I thought...why not turn it into something really beautiful! I painted a beautiful cow head on it, with flowers around it's neck and before I knew it, people were wanting me to paint more doors! I discovered I really loved to paint large items, as it didn't stifle my creativity. And I also loved the uneven surface of a beautiful, worn, old door. What a challenge! Thus, the birth of the Door Dame!!! I took my doors to an antique show in Eureka Springs, Arkansas..and enjoyed meeting the people in that quaint little ozark town. The doors a little heavy to lug around for a senior lady...but it still didn't deter my love of the pretty doors. I also made some unique shelves out of a combination of windows and doors which were appreciated by all. One of my favorites was a door painted for a gentleman from Florida, with palm trees and a flamingo featured. Then there was the cat and birdcage door, the old air balloons door, the hunting lady door, the flying angel door, the cherished chicken door, the September 11th Memorial door..and many more. Anotherwords, I'm hooked on doors ! I also create pastel pictures on sandpaper which I will feature on my EBay, soon. I grew up all over the world, the daughter of an Army officer...and had a most wonderful childhood. I loved the travels. I graduated from high school in Japan..attended college in Columbia, Missouri and also ASU, in Mt. Home, Arkansas. I have many hobbies, including playing my piano keyboard, caring for my 3 dogs and 2 cats, and two chickens. My art studio is quite unique, as it sports a 16' double cedar tree in the middle of the studio. I love trees !!!
