Dove's Landing
After many years of struggling with a challenged adolescent, single parenting, multiple car accidents, personal visitations of cancer, and sheltering a son who at twenty sustained a debilitating spinal cord injury followed within three years by a brain disorder, the Dove brought an olive branch. This chapter of my journey is about making a house into a disability advocacy center or housing for students or women in recovery. I am two years into a five year plan which was dramatically altered by the unexpected and painful deaths of two core family members. Still, this place is a good landing.
I continue to dream of offering my services as an experienced participant in the school of hard knocks who happens to have a degree in psychology and graduate credits in theology. I bring to my experience a difficult childhood which has left me with loving and difficult extended family relationships which I choose to continue in order to embrace the life lessons I am learning. This background enhanced my profession as a social worker for many years with Public Schools, Child Welfare, and Adoptions.
It is a challenge to bring my gifts and services to an outer world but that is the process I am embracing while I continue to shelter and wing my adult son. I am in a constant search for alternatives to the traditional medical world and formal religion while embracing each of these, to enhance our healing. It's great experience and I enjoy sharing my successes with others on the same or similar journeys.
My occupation is now is one of those highly worked and unsalaried caretakers; with unusual benefits and generally not monetary. They are not apparent nor appealing to the general public.
