I started painting with wax in 1989
I Started Wakes Waxes in 1992, supplying waxes, tools, painting card etc by mail-order.
Wakes Waxes (loveneys Farm, Wakes Colne, COLCHESTER, CO6 2BJ) is now one of the main suppliers of encaustic art supplies in the UK.
We probably have a wider range of tools and materials than anywhere else and keep massive stocks of card in lots of different sizes and colours. We keep about 300 of all 48 colours in stock.

Basic Effects put together to make landscape - no drawing!
|
This landscape has been painted with coloured beeswax and an iron without having to draw anything!
The iron is the heat source and the mark-maker.
Each iron mark is unique (for many reasons) but smoothing lightly creates fairly flat marks useful for skies, water, rocks etc.
Lifting the iron creates an intricate, branching effect looking like plant growth.
The edge of the iron, sliding, makes leafy sorts of shapes and the point of the iron can make dots and tapering shapes.
The point of the iron has made the dragonflies (from 5 flicks each) and the flowers.
