Sidesaddle demo for Attitash Equine Festival
New England Equitation Championships

I'm a lifelong horseman and rider, and have ridden sidesaddle since 1969.  There's been little my horses and I have not yet tried aside--not only the hunter/jumper showing and foxhunting most often associated with sidesaddle, but reining, gymkhana, competitive trail riding, cowboy mounted shooting, dressage (competing and winning to fourth level), and eventing (competing and winning through training level).  Together, we have earned 5 national sidesaddle championships.  Der Freischutz (in these photos) and his mother, Lucky Lady Lindy, are both Hall of Famers, as am I.

I became a licensed sidesaddle instructor in 1981.  Since then, I have earned my UK Side Saddle Association Rider Grade 4+, my "A" Instructor, and my Panel Judge ratings, taking those exams in the UK.  I am also an American Riding Instructors Assn. Level III instructor in Side-Saddle, Reining, and Riding to Hounds.  Besides a number of articles in various magazines, I have written The Western Side-Saddle (the first book ever written specifically on this discipline, and now into its second edition), Side-Saddle's Greatest Ideas, and soon to be published, The Illustrated Encyclopaedia of the Side-Saddle.

I have had a wonderful career as an elementary school teacher, now often working in both elementary and high schools as a substitute.  I collect not only hunting and side-saddle books and items, but music boxes, especially powder boxes.  I hunt with the Old North Bridge Hounds and the Warpack Bassets, and am a member of the Lafayette Artillery, formed 1804, the second oldest continually active military unit in the US.  After a lifetime of involvement and work with side-saddle, I am pleased to be one of the founders of the new American Sidesaddle Association, which forms a coalition of local sidesaddle groups throughout the US.
