My name is Heather McGee. I handcraft one-of-a-kind leather goods from new and recycled materials. My work tends to be aesthetically more alternative: rockabilly, punk, Art Deco, retro car culture, and whatever else strikes my fancy.
I could make you a Western wallet, but I don't want to. I work in a combination of traditional and eco-friendly dyes and finishes. I don't use shortcuts, machines, nor lasers. I use American-produced leather and various other materials, such as recycled bandanas, laminates, photographs, beads, crystal rivets, purchased patches, and whatever else shiny catches my eye.
I have a day job in wildlife and habitat conservation, volunteer for a roller derby league I helped found, drive my 1963 Studebaker Lark VIII Cruiser conversion, and ride a 1982 Honda CB650 standard street bike. I despise the Culture of Plastic in which we live. I love recycling, recycled art, 1950-60s American stock cars, drag racing, Art Deco and Deco Revival furnishings, wearing liquid eyeliner, and making lists.
I live in Anchorage, Alaska, with my kickass partner, John (who made me write kickass), and two unruly motorhead roommates.
