Johnnie K
My first work of art was done at the age of six, a pencil drawing of Jesus carrying the cross to Calvary. Mrs. Carney my 2nd grade teacher was amazed by my work and entered the drawing into a contest that won first place.
From that day and through the years it became evident to me that I was given a wonderful gift from God to share with the world.
I love to paint because of the journey that happens thru the experience. Applying the paint to canvas in an, in and out motion becomes a rather hypnotic experience and at some point I project into the painting. Literally I am walking around inside this new world! As I explore and create a road, I then walk down it. It is a vacuum and I enter into this strange wonderful place. With a stroke of the brush, magical images appear then slowly render to life. I am always amazed by the minds eye and the sprit that guides me.
My mediums are oil painting, airbrush, pencils, acrylic, and colored pencil. My technique is inspired by the masters of the past using a long process of applying the paint to canvas that it some case may take several weeks. Like the masters of old I often use a glazing approach by building the color over and over to the desired effect. I also will paint 2 canvases at the same time which I have included in my body of work, this technique lends to a very harmonious palette when the paint is applied at the same time to achieve this result. The Canvases are sealed with liquin or varnish.
