For living in such a cold state, one of my other hobbies is oddly enough
raising parrots. Yeah, tropical parrots. I have bred and sold parrots in
the past but currently I am "mom" to an African grey and 2 female Senegal
Parrots. I stopped breeding birds after visiting a local bird shelter.
Apparently, people "dump" parrots for the slightest reason and the shelters
are just overflowing with unwanted birds. Should you have an interest in
adopting an parrot, check out a shelter like MAARS ( Midwest Avian Adoption
and Rescue Service) at www.maars.org/home.php or some other bird shelter
close to you. The bird shelters have the better deal, complete with classes
on how to care for your parrot...a much better deal!
My three children have grown up helping care for our feathered pets.
Everyone is involved in raising our parrots, and my kids are skilled at
surgecally removing broken blood feathers, dealing with ill parrots, feeding
chicks with a syringe, building nesting boxes, etc. Even our autistic son
creates parrot toys out of safe odds and ends that the parrots can shred to
their delight. You might find a few in the store every now and then.
For twenty years we have homeschooled, dealt with autism, and cared for
parrots. And we have developed many other interests too: manga, costumes,
acting, dinosaurs, science, japanese horror and anime...you name it! My
husband noted that after years of hobbies, our house was just stuffed with"things" and the storage closet wouldn't even shut anymore! Suddenly,
without warning, the eBay store "The Peridot Parrot" was born!
We now specialize in "hobby" and "special interest" items at a very low,
almost garage sale cost, to you. We, of course, have alot of parrot
paraphenilia, but also have other items that should interest homeschoolers
and hobbiests. There is a ghost story section packed with numerous books my
mother has collected over the years..each one perfect to curl up with a cup
of cocoa and read on a stormy night! The boy's game section has pounds of
LEGO's for sale, not to metion other board and card games that are listed
for a fraction of their initial cost. DVD's, comics, language tapes,
electronics books, ect...we have a rather whimsical collection for sale.
And don't forget the renaissance hats! Can't forget them!
Our store is family run, and we hope to do our best to get the items to you
clean, fast, and with courtesy! We hope to be doing business with you
soon... |
