Lady Elinor

about The Honorable Lady Elinor, Baroness of the Butterfly Counties.

Lady Elinor is a 'Butterfly Princess' Barbie doll from about 1996, distinguished by having long curly hair. She has been a well-loved toy but is in good condition. Currently she is living in a very quaint little three-storey terrace house with her orphaned ward and lady's-maid Nancy, a 9-1/2" Skipper doll from about 1996. The place is furnished partly in Barbie accessories including a wardrobe full of dresses and jackets on hangers, but also with wooden scale furniture, a lovely sitting-room set in real wicker, topiary, books, linens, carpets (terry), an afghan (flannel), silk bedclothes (handkerchiefs), wallpaper (fabric or giftwrap), artwork including a framed Boucher (from a Christmas card), a collection of rare Oriental swords (cocktail spears), and many elegant metal and porcelain miniatures.

* * *

Supposedly in the 'States to finish her education, 20-ish Lady Elinor is known to neighbouring dolls as an aristocratic snob given to badgering her dutiful servant, whom she accommodates ignobly in the kitchen lit by only a lantern (from a keychain). The baroness shuns other dolls' casual parties but is often seen strolling the beach near her home or driving-- badly-- an American Corvette fitted with number plates from Ipswich-- to which many of her neighbours wish she would return! She rarely dates, claiming that most men are beneath her, but has been seen with a distinguished-looking Peer-- (a Marx 'Noble Knight' from about 1970) who wears a tux well. M'lady's taste in clothes can best be called snobbish-- only the most dignified styles will do (NO Barbie pink!). She has straw hats with hatpins, hair ribbons, purses, underwear, nighties, socks, an authentic Chinese noblewoman's ensemble, an antique Victorian wedding dress, and about 15 pairs of shoes, but she duly attends formals in a traditional butterfly gown representing her ancestral Counties.

about us.

We are avid consumers of 'well-loved' Barbie goods but do not restrict our collections to Mattel product. We also maintain a respectable archive of original 1964-1972 Hasbro GIJoes in very good played-with condition and some 1967-1974 Marx product as well. At present there are three households of 1:6-scale dolls busily inhabiting the playroom.

* * *

We are in the process of making commercially available our original design of scale doll's-houses modelled on 1750s prototypes in our nearby Philadelphia. When ready for market on EBay and elsewhere, the space-efficient three-room model will probably start round US $80-100. The sky is the limit on the upper end. This is no mere delicacy but a real model house which looks stunning and will survive a knockdown by a 4-year-old who may land on top of it. However it is intended to be trimmed out to a collector's discriminating taste and will unobtrusively accommodate your two or three most beloved dolls in dignity and luxury, safe from the cat, the grandchildren, dust and spills. Further in the works are an Anglican church, parish school, some offices and a store, as well as a cheaper and simpler modular system of doll's-house rooms for children's play. We require sources for 1:6-scale upholstered period furniture, clergy vestments, a policeman's uniform (probably settling for new GIJoe) and school uniforms for 9-1/2" Skipper dolls (vis., Mary-Kate & Ashley). Our goal is to attend local shows regularly (just for fun, unless we win! --ha!).
