Life Needs Art


"Sunshine Through Mountains" ACEO

I'm Karen Koch, an artist specializing in small-scale paintings in acrylic and watercolor. Most paintings are abstract, though I like to dabble in still lifes now and again. I use bold colors applied in transparent washes that give the paintings a real glow.

My inspiration is taken from simple things around me: the change of seasons, the color of the sky today, or the flowers blooming in my yard. I delight in them, turning the images into small‑scale abstracts in acrylic and watercolor.

I studied Studio Art and English Literature at Denison University. Afterwards, I worked at art galleries and produced my own paintings for several years. Eventually, I took a corporate job and painted less and less as the job kept me busier and busier. Then, for about a dozen years, I did not paint at all.

I started painting again in 2005 and haven't stopped since. After all, Life Needs Art, don't you think?
