Shelley's Page

Hello! Some may remember me as an US expatriate living in Singapore. After living there for 6 years, I have moved back to TX.

Many times I sell personal items that are new or gently used. My daughter is constantly growing or changing her style. Sometimes I list other family member's clothing if it passes my tests ;)

I don't bother listing something that is not in good condition. If it's worn out, I just throw it away because it's not even good enough to donate! I also don't list things that are outdated in style. That doesn't mean that I don't list vintage stuff, because sometimes I do. You will find that I check each item as though I was the shopper. My biggest pet peeve is receiving something that was not as described or an important flaw was simply left out of the description.

I am equally active in buying, especially clothing, here in ebay. But, it's a good way for me to find my size, which is 0-2P. I think that this also helps me understand the viewpoint of my buyer's more. Sometimes if I get something that doesn't fit or the color doesn't suit me, I just relist it.

A note about the paypal buyer's protection:

I recently won an auction for a Shelli Segal dress. When I first got it, I checked it over and didn't see any flaws. So, I gave the seller a positive feedback. A few days later I pulled the dress back out and realized that there was a hole or tear near the zipper. It looked like the fabric (which is sheer) had caught in the zipper. I contacted the buyer who only offered to pay $5 to repair it. It knew that any repair would be visible. I filed a claim with paypal and after about a month, I was contacted saying that the claim was denied because it was determined that the defect didn't significantly affect its value! I don't care about its dollar value, I care about its value to me as a wearable article of clothing! So, the moral of the story is don't rely too much on paypal's protection. This concerns me because there is that much less accountability for a seller and that much less confidence in a buyer.

If you are wondering who I use to post extra pics, it would be tinypic.com It's free and they will give you all the formats that different website's use.

The secret of Shipping on ebay:

I prefer to use priority mail for most clothing items. The reason is that priority mail packaging is FREE. I can also have all priority mail packaging delivered to my house for FREE. So, sometimes the 1st class or parcel postage is cheaper, but, not so much when you add on the cost of the packaging that I would have to go buy for it. Very small or light items are the only exception. If you see a seller charging way higher than actual cost, it means that they are trying to get charged less by ebay for the final value fee in addition to lining their pockets with your money. Now I'm not talking about handling fees. I could see charging a little extra if I sold alot of heavy, breakable items that I had to wrap and pack in a certain way. But, I'm not talking about an extra $5+ handling fee! See ebay will charge the seller a percentage of the final bid, but, not the shipping charge. Most of the time what happens is that the seller will charge high postage, so, the buyer will consider this and subtract the postage from their highest bid. So, I guess that the seller feels justified. If you think that the shipping is high, ask the seller what the weight is and the method of shipment (if not listed). Also, if you choose parcel post or 1st class mail, ask what kind of packaging that's being used. Yes, you do have some sellers with no sense that will mail a MAC blush in a regular envelope and expect you not to lose it in the mail because the envelope ripped open or for it not to get crushed because it wasn't even bubblewrapped! If I see a shirt listed as $12 to ship by USPS priority mail, I report it to ebay. Just click on the "report this item" link located at the bottom of the auction page, under step 1. choose "listing policy violations", steps 2 and 3 "excessive shipping & handling". Make sure to click the contact ebay link. It basically reports the auction number, you don't actually have to type a message.

Now I will address my negative feedbacks:

I have 1 negative feedback from a seller:

I bought a new in box MAC palette from this seller. When I got it, 2 pans of eyeshadow were crumbling. This is something that could have happened in the mail. However, the MAC box that it came in was very filthy, caked with who-knows-what? I have pictures of the item that I returned. I notified the seller, who cooperated with me and allowed me to return it. I left the seller a neutral because I received the item in poor condition, but, she gave me no arguments about returning it with a refund. So, a negative combined with a positive is a neutral. She responded with a negative I think because I specifically listed the item's problems. This was because she relisted this item without full disclosure of its condition. She said that I couldn't be pleased, but, I was actually very grateful that she did not put up a fight about returning it because it saved me alot of trouble filing a complaint with eBay and Paypal.

I have 2 negatives from buyers:

1. A buyer bought a new with tags white dress from Banana Republic that was bought at over $100. Since I took it back with me to Singapore and couldn't return it, I ended up listing it and it sold for only $30-35 (can't remember exactly). When she got it she apparently found a "quarter-sized" stain on it and immediately left a negative feedback without contacting me about the problem first. When I contacted her she said that the stain was "a half dollar-sized" stain and that she only got it out by soaking in bleach. I thought it odd that I would not see such a large sized stain. However, she was relatively new and did not realize that she could ask to return with a refund. Once she removed the tags and started bleaching it, a return would have been out of the question. Also, she didn't know that she could not change the feedback once she left it. Of course, now eBay has a system to request a change in feedback.

2. A buyer bought a new Marilyn Monroe graphic T-shirt that was bought at Hot Topic and given as a birthday gift to my daughter. When my mother-in-law bought it, the sales person recommended a size XXL for a regular size L because the size ran small. When I listed the shirt, I listed the size as tagged. But, warned that it ran small and to check the measurements that I provided. The buyer apparently did not read the description and bid on it. When she got the shirt she complained that the shirt was way too small for her and threatened me with a negative feedback if I didn't allow her to return with postage paid. I think that if she had ASKED to return it without compensation for the return postage, that I might have considered. But, she was being very nasty and I reminded her that my returns description says that returns are only for defective items, wrong item being sent, or a detail was left out of the description. This does not cover items that do not fit and that I always provide measurements. AND in this case, I specifically warned that the size ran small!

If anyone has a complaint about a purchase from me, please contact me BEFORE leaving feedback. I try my best to please my buyers and try to work honestly. But, like anyone, I can make a mistake and overlook something.

Attention new bidders: Please DO NOT bid on my auctions if you do not intend to pay or you think that you can back out. You are not shopping at a flea market! I have to pay fees to list, to post the pic next to its link (gallery pic) AND a final value fee (a fee that takes a cut of how much the item sold for). If you do not pay, I have to file a final value refund request after I file for non-paying bidder alert. Thanks for your understanding :)
