Welcome!
My name is L.M. Hornberger and I am an artist. For the last 10 years, I have focused on botanical watercolors and portraits, among other things. I have won numerous awards from art festivals and gallery shows and have had my work grace the cover of several magazines and catalogs. My artwork hangs in many private, corporate, and museum collections worldwide.

While many artists specialize in one medium or genre, I prefer variety. I believe that I learn more as an artist by trying different things than just repeating myself over and over again. This is not because I lack commitment to art -- I have been a professional artist for 15 years. Over the years, my work can be divided into about 5 main focus areas -- 4 of which I sell here on eBay. (I have gallery commitments with my sculptures, so they are not offered here.)

Florals and Botanical Watercolors
One main focus in my art is florals and botanical watercolors. I love the challenge of capturing the delicacy of flowers and their vibrant colors. With florals, I tend to use oils or watercolors, but I don't limit myself to these 2 media. For those who collect botanical watercolors, please be assured that they are botanically accurate (although some of the plants I do are rather different), as I spent 3 years in graduate school working on a masters in botany.

Wildlife Art
Another focus of late has been wildlife art, mainly birds. Over the years I have resisted the desire to paint animals and birds, mainly because there were too many artists already painting wildlife. Then it dawned on me that it was rather silly not to paint what I wanted to paint, so I'm beginning to offer wildlife art. Besides, since I work from my own photos, taking wildlife photos is a good excuse to go hiking in remote places! Most of the work will be either in oils or watercolors.

Still Lifes
My interest in still lifes developed mainly from my love of textures in oil and pastel. I love richly textured pieces, but this would not be quite appropriate for florals or most wildlife. But when it comes to groups of objects, the textures (and colors) come to the forefront.

Portraits
I have done pencil and pastel portraits of people and pets for over 10 years. My clients include actors, CEOs, and just regular people who wish to preserve the memory of a loved one. While I would like to work from life, I gladly will work from quality photos. Presently, I have a number of portrait commissions which I am working and am not actively seeking additional commissions, other than small pet sketches. Once these other commissions are done (probably the end of March), I will once again offer portrait commissions.

My Personal Philosophy
I am a snob when it comes to art. I sell ONLY original pieces which have been created with the finest materials. I will not sell laser prints with touches of paint, nor paintings created with nonarchival materials, nor anything which I would not be proud to hang on my own wall. This means that I have to constantly produce new work and that my art will last for centuries. As an art collector, this means that my work is the real thing -- no tricks, no fakes. And Feathers?!
Yes, I occasionally sell feathers. I have a small flock of parrots, all except one which have come to me from abused homes. Some are bald from being plucked by their owners. Others are simply terrified of any human thanks to mishandling. I'm not a rich person, which is why I sell the feathers from my blue and gold macaw (the only bird I have who I actually bought). The few bucks I make from their sale helps pay for food and toys. All the feathers have been naturally molted and the larger ones have been cleaned.
