How it all started….
A few years ago I helped my
mother design a wedding cake for a cousin. I had never made a cake…ever. My mother on the other hand had made quite
a few. My sisters, brother, and I have
enjoyed homemade birthday cakes, graduation cakes, baby shower cakes, and
even wedding cakes…thanks to my mom. So
baking a wedding cake for my cousin was not as much of a challenge to her….until
I showed her my design for the cake.
See my main talent growing up was that I was artistic. I find it easy to be able to look at
something and draw it, paint it, or even mold it out of clay. I really like clay….so my cake design which
included fondant and fondant pearls seemed just perfect for my contribution
to the cake.
For the cake we envisioned
something beautiful yet timelessly classic. And what described that better
than pearls! The challenge was finding edible pearls. I definitely did not want to use plastic
fake pearls or dragees. And since we were also
cutting the cake we wanted to be able to cut it quickly without having to
remove anything. Hence my idea and first attempt at making soft edible
pearls. I spent quite a bit of time researching and practicing to get my
pearls as close to the real thing as possible. Well one cake led to another…and another…and
another…
Since then I have decided to
focus more on fondant and gumpaste items.
I hope you have enjoyed browsing
the site. Stop back again and check out the other fondant items that I'll be
adding!
