Greetings to all my loyal friends and customers. I find due to my health issues that I must re-think my selling on eBay. At this time I will be leaving my store on vacation while I consider what to do and see if my health improves. Thank-you all for your loyal support of my artwork on eBay over the years. About My Art
"I am an artist-illustrator working in mixed media whose images are inspired by my interest in the phantasmagorical and surreal, the whimsical and the wonder-full. My works explore the landscapes of mythos, alternate realities, and the psyche; and are informed by my love of the magical universe we live in, a deep empathy for all life, and a feminist worldview.
My art is based in narrative imagery: each piece telling a story. Oftentimes the stories come from my own imagination and inner worlds; sometimes the stories are informed by the folktales and myths of various cultures. All of my work is strongly informed by a lifelong love affair with Tarot Cards, and the ideas and images behind them. At this time, along with other projects, I am working on the images for my own Tarot deck, and am writing a book to accompany it.
Right: "Gemini Cats: Egyptian Blues", acrylic, ink and colored pencil on illustration board, 2.5"x3.5", 2007. One of my series of 'Zodiac Cats' ACEO cards.
I am at the present time creating paintings/drawings in mixed media (acrylic paint, ink and colored pencil), primarily on illustration board; larger works are on canvas. I have formerly worked a little in sculpture, but am not currently creating any 3-dimensional work. As for my style; I would call it representational and yet surreal: realism for an alternate reality!
"I was born and grew up in Southern California: received a BA degree in Studio Art from the University of California at San Bernardino in 1985. I minored in anthropology, specializing in the art and mythology of indigenous peoples, a subject that fascinates me still and often influences my artworks. After graduation I moved to Tucson, Arizona. In the Tucson area, I have pursued a career as a fine artist and as the owner of a small cactus nursery business. Although I am still an avid collector of cacti and other wierd plants, I now devote myself to my artwork full time - and have been rewarded by finding work as an illustrator in the Fantasy/Goddess and SciFi genres.
Left: "Art Cat At Her Desk", acrylic paint and colored pencil on Dessins Paper, 5.5"x7.5".
I am "over 50", and am presently devoting my energy to creating art full time, although I maintain an interest in photography and digital media. I'm also very concerned with animal welfare (both companion animals and wildlife), and the general health and well-being of this planet and all it's creatures. I write, am a devoted journaller and collector of folktales; and am currently authoring a book to accompany my Tarot deck (also in progress). I am a cancer survivor, first diagnosed Sept 26, 2006, with Ovarian Cancer stage IIIc. After surgery and continuing chemotherapy, I am gradually taking up the threads of my life; am making art, practicing yoga and taking walks daily."
