When people think of homesteaders, they think of people living on a farm, maybe living the way they did in the 1800's. That is not always the case. I do live in a home that is off the grid, but I generate my own power, using modern technology, solar panels, and soon to be adding a wind turbine to my set up.
Using 2 laptop computers, I am able to maintain my web site, and also sell on ebay. Doing my banking online, paying my bills online, meeting friends online, shopping online and even researching health issues online. I also grow most of my own food, bake my own bread, can and preserve my harvest from my garden, and live in the beautiful state forest, of upstate New York.
It is definitely the way of the modern homesteader, to be self sufficient on your homesteader. Using modern methods makes it easier to accomplish than you think. As you probably can tell, my heart is in homesteading, and it's not like most people think, that we live old fashioned. Oh no! It's the way of the future!
