I've been on eBay a long time now - and while I used to be a much more prolific user, these days it's the occasional purchase, and the rare item for sale that I just don't know what to do with anymore.
I've also noticed the # scammers and rotton tomatoes have grown over the years here on eBay as well. I'd encourage everyone to keep the "Buyer Beware" ideaology firmly in place - and DO TAKE THE TIME to read eBay's guidelines on how to avoid and report scammers and other unscrupulous dealings/dealers.
My own personal rule of thumb guidelines:
1. I never buy from or sell to anyone who has recently changed their name and has little or no feedback
2. I never buy from or sell to someone who has less than 10 positive feedback, and has been an eBay member for less than 3 months. I realize this may not be fair, but I've been burned enough times to proceed with caution.
3. WATCH OUT for "bid sniffers" and "bid bumpers" - there are people who set up alternate email accounts or have friends who they send out to "bump up the bid" on their own items - or attempt to try and force a bidder to max out their "Top bid".
4. Avoid using a Max Bid in general - instead, keep an eye on your auctions and place a new bid each time you get outbid - this avoids a great deal of problems related to point 3 above.
5. DO READ feedback - it's the single most useful tool any buyer and/or seller on eBay has at their disposal.

To protect bidder privacy, when the price or highest bid on an item reaches or exceeds a certain level, User IDs will be displayed as anonymous names. For auction items, a bold price means at least one bid has been received.
Note: Anonymous names may appear more than once and may represent different bidders.
