About Us
Ed Datin started out in off road in 1979 during his high school years, working part time for Walker Evans Racing. Throughout the 1980's he worked at various machine shops including Cal Fab, where he learned the art of aluminum fabrication and welding building swing arms for Vance and Hines race team, as well as other race bikes. In the late 80's, he returned to work full time for Walker Evans.
He worked and traveled for over 6 years learning to build desert and short course trucks, as well as stadium trucks and having the honor of riding passenger in some of the desert races. He left to assume the position of crew chief for the Darren York 7S race team. When Darren decided to not race the following year, Ed went to work for RWD. During this time, with the mentoring of Russ Wernimont, he gained invaluable knowledge on chassis and racecar building. Under Russ' guidance he learned to artistically shape metal building gas tanks, fenders and oil tanks for custom bikes.
After 2 years, Ed formed his own company Datin Fabrication. During the slow start up period of his new business, Norm Bigelow of Kawasaki Motorsports invited Ed to join the R&D department for a season. He jumped at the chance of working with the factory race team, building and modifying Supercross bikes.
In 1997 he was asked to build the Pro 4 short course truck for the Scott Douglas race team, which he completed with the help of fellow fabricator Jeff Hoskison and the engineering help of Russ Wernimont. During the same year, they built the chassis for the Stone Stock Andataco race truck.
In 1998 Ed was introduced to the world of rock crawling and he's been building parts for this industry ever since |
