Folie ("Folly" in French)
I'm one of the many "follies" of romance novelist Laura Kinsale. (Those of you who may have read my work will recognize Folie as the heroine of MY SWEET FOLLY, Berkley Books, 1997.) I discovered the miniature world recently, and found that painting these tiny canvases is a relaxing pasttime for me while I think about "what-happens-next" in my current manuscript. Selling them on Ebay is just for fun. I don't take commissions (no time for that!). I paint whatever appeals to me at the moment, usually a miniature interpretation of some art I've come across in my book research, so each piece is unique and original, similar to the historical source but by no means a copy or accurate reproduction. I chose the name Folie for my artist's alter-ego because miniatures remind me of the creative joy and fantasy embodied in the garden follies of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries--something done entirely for the pleasure of the viewer. I hope miniaturists, and their dollhouse inhabitants, enjoy looking at these paintings and sketches as much as I enjoy doing them!
