First off, let me introduce myself. My name is Brian and I have been trading on Ebay since 1999, but only since early 2003 have I been seriously buying and selling as a hobby. Although selling on Ebay started as just a hobby, there are times that what little I can earn here goes to pay the electric bill or buys my groceries for the week. I would love to do more, but I am disabled and have trouble getting about.

You see, I had apendectomy surgery back in 1992 and when the surgeons closed me up they forgot some of their surgical clips or whatever they are, inside my body. These 6 metal pieces were not discovered until a few years after the surgery when I started experiencing serious pain and other problems in that area. I had some X-Rays done and the doctor was like, "What in the world are these things in your stomach?". I had no idea what he was talking about, so he told me to come take a look, where I saw these horrible things for the first time. I thought I should sue the hospital and the doctors who did this to me, but it turns out I was past the discovery time here in Texas where medical malpractice is damn near impossible to sue successfully for, so here I am. Totally unable to sue the hospital or the doctors, but stuck disabled for the rest of my life. Because of their error, I am always in tremendous pain and have trouble walking or doing anything that requires me to bend over at the waist because these metal things move about and have changed positions over the years and I have X-rays in my possession to prove it.

Anyway, I would like to welcome you to my Ebay about me page. Here you will find some of my buying and selling practices and beliefs, as well as my usual shipping methods.

Buying and Selling on Ebay

The way I conduct any business on Ebay is a reflection of how I conduct my life and my own personal business beliefs, morals, and ethics. First, let me say that customer service is everything. What distinguishes me from other people or sellers, is my desire to please my customers and treat them the way I want and expect to be treated. Whether it's a $2 item, or something much more pricey you can expect honest dealing, fast and inexpensive quality shipping, and above all a desire to please. Although, it is only recently that I have been seriously selling on Ebay, I feel these principles are paramount in dealing with people.

Buying from me and my shipping policies

If you buy from me, this is what you can expect. I will send an invoice through Ebay once you have won the auction. I MUST hear from you within 48 hours of the auction closing to know how you intend or paying. Payment MUST be received within 7 days from close of auction unless other arrangements have been made and approved by me. Once I receive your payment, I will usually ship that very same day. However, on occasion, like weekends and holidays it may take up to, and although very rarely it may take more than 72 hours.

I believe that shipping cost is just that, the exact cost it takes to get the product from me to you. I dislike upcharged shipping and handling fees. I am aware that sometimes people need to purchase boxes and packing materials plus spend time to ship the item. But it is my belief that is just the cost of doing business and these fees should be built into the purchase price, not tacked on afterwards in a large increment. However, there are exceptions to every rule. There are some items that are just too large or too fragile and must be packed with extreme care plus lots of packing materials, which are quite expensive. However, I believe that if someone wants to sell online, they should plan out their business to ensure low shipping and lower handling charges.

I do reserve a right to add a $1 fee for packing materials, although I rarely ever do that. If I am shipping something especially fragile, I may add that fee, but I rarely ever do. Haven't we all seen the news stories on certain shipping companies chucking packages around? I am not naming names, but we have all seen the news expose where employees are tossing packages on or off the trucks or in the warehouse. We have even seen it at the airport with our luggage. Another thing you need to know, if I must purchase a box to ship your item in I will sometimes charge for that, but usually I have what I need. On smaller items I usually ship FedEx Ground or Home Delivery. They are much less expensive than the USPS or UPS and you get insurance up to $100 included for no extra charge as well as a tracking number. Once your item ships I will email you the method of shipment and tracking numbers if applicable, so you don't have to guess where the package is or when it might arrive.

Once your item leaves my hands, I can no longer be responsible for mis-handling of the item, whether it is damaged in shipping or lost in the post. I have had two items lost by USPS over the years. Very rarely will I ship with UPS. Their charges are much higher than FedEx and the closest UPS to my home is two suburbs away. I highly recommend purchasing insurance if it is not included in the cost of shipping. Once the item leaves my possession I cannot and will not be responsible for damage/missing items if the item was not insured.

My opinion on Feedback

In an ideal world, once I receive your payment, if in a timely manner, you have filled your requirement in my book and would receive positive feedback immediately. However, we don't live in an ideal world. I no longer leave feedback after I get paid for selling something. This is done because of the large number of transactions I have left feedback for, but then never received any in return. If I get no communication and it takes more than 7 days to receive your payment or you do not pay at all, I will use all tools available to me to make sure people know about it, especially feedback and the non-paying bidder alert with Ebay.

I encourage everyone to leave feedback, honestly and immediately. It's the only way to truly get an idea of whether or not a seller is very honest, or customer oriented here on Ebay. This will help all of us from dealing with those who are untrustworthy or not customer service oriented.

Update!!

I no longer leave feedback until I have received it first. I have been in countless transactions where I have left positive feedback and still to this moment never received ANY feedback in return.

I find it easier to use an automated system for leaving feedback. Once you leave me feedback it will return feedback to you for me. This lets me know you got your item and that everything went okay. Plus it ensures that I get credit for each transaction I am in where I have left feedback. I do not think it to be fair for me to leave feedback for the other party, but never get any at all. So if I do not get feedback, then the other party will not either.

Should the occasion arrise that you have an issue with something you purchased from me, I request you contact me to work it out before hastily leaving negative feedback, which cannot be removed. I will try to work out any problem that might arrise, and I organize my selling and shipping practices to minimize the risk of such problems.

Buying on Ebay, my way

Now, buying on Ebay is another story altogether. I always check a user's feedback. Depending on what the feedback and the responses, I can usually tell whether the negative comments are left by a vengeful person, or there really was something wrong with that transaction. Now, I realize that there are some people out there that just can never be satisfied and unfortunately we will all run into them at one time or another, so I will usually give the benefit of a doubt when there are only minimal negative feedback ratings on a person. I also check to see if they ship with customer service in mind. Some people only ship with one carrier, no matter if another is less expensive or if they offer tracking, that's just their business practice and that's fine, I just won't buy from them. Also, if I feel like they are inflating the shipping and/or handling fees, I will not do business with them. Again, it goes back to I treat people the way I want to be treated.

What I normally deal in

I deal in a little bit of everything, but mainly in computer components and US Coins. I have recently started to rebuild my coin collection. I will be buying some, but there will be sales as well. I also deal in collectables, like figurines, music boxes, dolls, etc. Should I come across something that's a good product, I will buy with Ebay in mind. On these occasions that I come across things that I purchase with the sole intent to resell here on Ebay, they can and have been in just about every category on here. These items are things that I would be comfortable owning, not just any old thing that I think can make a profit from selling.
