My name is Cindi and I live in sunny San Diego, having recently moved from Arizona!
My sweetheart is Matt, who has been my dearest friend for 25 years,
and, as life unfolds
the secrets of God's plan in each of us, it only gets better.
We have 3 children. Our oldest is off on his own in the wide
wild world finding himself.
It is our joy to have the opportunity to teach our remaining two
children ourselves.
My teaching style leans toward living books and life experiences.
The Five In A Row
program has been very helpful in getting us going. Currently, we are also enjoying the wonderful living books provided by Sonlight Curriculum, though, as with everything in life, we are going at our own snail's pace, and enjoying the many wonderful, growth enhancing opportunities in our new community!
I love children's books, especially Quality (with a capital Q)
picture books. In fact, the older I
get, the more I come to appreciate the beauty in a clearly-written and
illustrated picture book.
I also love gardening! In our previous home, we were blessed to be able to live
on 2 1/2 acres outside the city
limits. I discovered that I found solace in landscaping around
my house. Alas, we moved and now live in a lovely apartment community, and my gardens these days are a few small pots on my front porch and back patio.
Hence, I have combined my loves in A Child's Garden of Books.
Here I hope to share with you
the types of children's books that I love to surround my children with,
and hope you will catch
some of that passion for your home library!
So
many Books...so little time....
This was my first thought when I first started considering the types of
books
I would want in my home for my children to reach out for and engross
themselves in, to
become attached to, and to remember for the rest of their lives.
When they were very little,
it was the board books and the wordless picture
books that would grab their attention. And, as
children will do, they would find
a favorite, carry it around with them everywhere, have
it read to them every day,
and then take it to bed to gaze at as they
would fall asleep. As I came to realize
just how much time my home schooled
children would spend with the books in our home,
I also realized that
we, as the gatekeepers of the home, wanted to be very intentional
about
choosing the books that would populate our bookshelves, cars, bedrooms
and,
most importantly, our children's arms. Over the past 24 years
of raising children
and building a rich home library, I have learned a
few principles that help me narrow
the choices down. If this is a
question that concerns you, please read my guide entitled
"How
to Build a Children's Home Library."
