I was raised on the Texas gulf coast, in a small farming and ranching community. I moved to Kansas City, MO to attend classes at the Kansas City Art Institute, where I received my bachelor’s degree in fine art in 1997. I relocated to Ventura, CA in 2001 and moved back to Kansas City in the spring of 2005. I'm very happily married and we have a beautiful little girl.
I prefer to paint with oils, but enjoy working with pen and ink and watercolor also. I started selling ACEO's on eBay as a way to reach a broader audience and offer quality art at a very reasonable price.
Most of my works are painted as a mimicry of traditional portraiture, but are (as I see them) vehicles to another concept entirely. Almost all of them have a very tongue-in-cheek wryness about them as I explore themes ranging from self-image issues to historical oddities to the dissection of fairy tales and popular culture. They differ in emotion; some are just silly, while others are plainly macabre, but they are all simple illustrations to the subtle narratives underneath.
I provided the illustrations for The Adventures of Erasmus Twiddle: Grmkville’s Famous and Talented Not-Detective, a children’s book published by Simon and Schuster, 2001.
I also illustrated the cover of The Four Ugly Cats in Apartment 3D, also published by Simon and Schuster, 2003.
I'm also a regular contributor to the literary journal The Baffler, and I was featured in the Spring 2004 edition of Ventura Life and Style magazine.
Currently I'm represented by the Blue Gallery here in Kansas City.
