In 2005, both of my little angels were diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder - not otherwise specified.
This is an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Initially, I was devastated. Then I realized this was not a death sentence like a child diagnosed with a devastating physical illness.
So, I sought the appropriate treatment and eventually they will adapt.
My son is 3 and is an specialized preschool program @ at local college, I tell everyone he is so bright that he is in college and taking advanced calculus. I wouldn't be surprised if that is the next thing to come my way!
MY daughter is 4 and will be 5 in December and has matriculated quite well to Kindergarten. In fact, the Board of Education SpecEd is working to drop her from SpecEd. I figure if she has matriculated and has adjusted to Kindergarten life and nobody can tell she is Autistic - what's the point of having her in SpecEd. She can always be referred back if another issue arises.
Yes ,even I used to think of RainMan when I heard about Autism! I used to joke and laugh about it too! Shame on me!
Let me tell you, you don't really know it until you are effected by it.
There are so many facets of the Autism Spectrum.
It truly is a puzzle and amazes me.
Anyone and Everyone is more than welcome to inquire about Autism to me.
I am more than willing to offer up advice on Early detection and treatment.
Autism has changed my life! There are many resources out there for you to utilize! It's hard to take the first step if you don't know where to start.
I am so fascinated by Autism that I am now thinking of exploring school opportunities! I would love to work with children who have developmental delays.
I am excited, intrigued by this spectrum and hope all of the research dedicated to Autism can help find the cause and a cure!
