What is the ESA Foundation?
In 1998, the Entertainment Software Association (ESA) and its members acknowledged the industry obligation to collectively step up to support charitable causes by creating an annual fund-raiser, Nite to Unite - for Kids(NTU).   This event raised over $1.6 million in 1998 and 1999 to benefit the Child Welfare League of America (CWLA) and its rotecting America Childreninitiative.
In January 2000, the ESA board took yet another historic step in its endeavor to give back to the community by authorizing the creation of an industry Foundation, the ESA Foundation (oundation to carry out the industry charitable activities. The ESA Foundation is dedicated to supporting positive programs and opportunities that will make a difference in the quality of life, health and welfare of America youth.  The Foundation seeks to harness the collective power of the industry to create positive social impact in our communities.  The interactive entertainment industry supports geographically diverse projects and programs that benefit American youth of all races and denominations and both genders.

The foundation has since raised over $4.6 million and have provided grants to support the following organizations:

  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

  • Web Wise Kids year 2

  • Just Think Foundation year 2

  • Mothers Against Violence in America's Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) project

  • The expansion of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Oakland Computer Learning Center

The Foundation also made a special donation to Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund and The Community Foundation for the National Capitol Region Survivors Fund to help the victims of the terrorist attacks of September 11th to rebuild their lives and communities in 2001.
