Welcome to my "about me" page. My name is Lew Wood. I moved to Alaska from Nebraska with my parents when I was 3 years old. I grew up in Fairbanks and began work in the retail grocery industry during high school. I worked as a security supervisor for two years during construction of the Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline, then entered law enforcement. I retired in 1999 as a police chief after nearly 22 years of public service. I was a policeman all over the state, including towns in the frozen arctic. Somehow along the way I was able to complete two college degrees.
I am now an adjunct faculty member of a community college, teaching law enforcement subjects and sociology. Ebay has provided me with an opportunity to turn my spare time into a venture that serves to fund my passion for collecting, which would otherwise be a liability on the family budget. I live in North Pole (yes, there really is one!) with Wanda, my wife of twenty-one years, and two daughters, nineteen year old Lynsie and seventeen year old Lori.
Alaska has so much to offer visitors and a trip up here is well worth the time. Be careful though. Our state is well known for luring people to return over and over again! . . . . and by the way, please bring any spare Daisy Model 179s with you for trade or sale.
I had Daisy bb guns as far back as I can remember and have collected them for about 15 years. I originally wanted one of each model they produced, but soon realized that my life wasn't going to be long enough nor my funds sufficient enough to accomplish that. So I decided to collect only the "Spittin' Image" of the Colt Peacemaker revolver - the Daisy Model 179. It is the only gun Daisy produced that fires the bb solely by an internal spring. I claim to have the largest collection (until proven otherwise) in the world. I am the author of "The Daisy Spittin' Image Model 179 BB Six Gun - Rebirth of a Western Classic," copies of which are available directly through me or periodically can be found on auction sites. I'm proud to be one of the earliest lifetime members of the Friends of the Daisy Airgun Museum.
MY DAISY MODEL 179 COLLECTION, FATHERS DAY 2002
The above photograph shows part of my collection of over 300 sixguns (hope to update the photo soon), including three rare and prized pieces: one of my solid brass sales samples and two chrome Doc Holliday commemoratives. I'm always looking for more, including broken guns and parts, and I'm willing to purchase them for cash or may trade other collectibles I have, such as Lionel trains, John Wayne memorabilia, coins, other bb guns, etc.

A CLOSE-UP OF THE SOLID BRASS SALES SAMPLES
Without question, these are among the most rare of all Daisy springair guns. I know of only eight of these in existance. The guns were milled from solid brass blanks and fitted with wooden grips. They weigh in at a hefty two pounds, double the weight of the diecast models produced for general sales by Daisy. According to Daisy sources, no more than 25 of these would have been made for advertising photos before producing and beginning sales of the regular models. Some, including both of mine, are shooters. Others didn't have the internal mechanisms and couldn't fire. If you are lucky enough to have obtained either type, you have a true treasure!
