Old Mint Coin & Bullion

Old Mint on Ebay

Hi, I am Joel Mitchell. I am the owner of Old Mint Coin & Bullion, a full service coin shop, in Carson City, Nevada. I am the guy that has been standing behind the counter buying and selling at Old Mint since 1992 and still do. Late in 1999 I began auctioning on Ebay and have been having a BALL! I have been selling all kinds of coins and a few other odds and ends and meeting all the great people that come out to play with us on Ebay. If there are any typos they are most likely my fault so if you call ask for me. If for any reason anyone feels that Old Mint is wrong or unfair contact me and I will do everything in my power to make it right. I want to make and keep Ebay a great place to do business. I am here to make the best deals on any items sold by a full time dealer in the profession on Ebay or anywhere else.

Where and What is Old Mint Coin & Bullion?

Old Mint Coin & Bullion is a full service coin shop in downtown Carson City, Nevada. We are located across the street from the former Carson City Mint, now the Nevada State Museum. This Location has been a coin shop for fourty plus years and has been mine since 1992.I buy and sell all sorts of United States Coins, Gold, Silver, Platinum, Nuggets, Supplies, and other little round metal goodies. I am open Monday through Saturday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visit the website www.oldmint.com or you can email me at jwmitchell@oldmint.com or you can call me at 1-800-649-2646.

Proxy Bidding

Proxy Bidding is a very under used free tool that Ebay offers to all of the buyers. This free tool can save a great deal of time and money to all that use it. When a buyer / bidder finds an item of interest on Ebay they should look themselves in the eye and determine within themselves What is the most that I would be happy paying for this item? If you want this item in your collection then you should bid that amount then and there and not bid on that item again. For an example, If I have a coin with a minimum bid of $4.00 and you would be happy to have it for $6.50, then bid $6.50. $6.50 is you proxy bid and it will register as a $4.00 bid until someone else bids higher than $4.00. Your Proxy bid will automaticlly out bid your competitor to the point that a competitor bids higher than $6.50. Because you have had that talk with yourself and decided that $6.50 was your maximum, this auction is now over as far as you are concerned. This helps you not spend more than you meant to by placing your Proxy bid and forgeting about the auction until it closes instead of getting caught up in a bidding war with one or more competitors during the last minutes of the auction. If you are the high bidder Ebay & I both will let you know via email. It is also possible that your Proxy Bid will have you buying the item for less than $6.50. This should make you feel like a wise buyer and that you received a great deal on your purchace.

SNIPING is not a four letter word!

I would rather be sniped than not bid on at all. I did all the work to list the auction and I really want a bid and a sale. If a couple of competitors bid the item way up in price, it's fine with me too. Lets face facts, Sniping does and will continue to occur so you may as well learn how to do it. Take a look at this point of veiw with me. I am a Coin Dealer dealing in United States Coins along with Gold and Silver Bullion and a few other types of valuables. I know the exact value of a great many items for sale at Ebay and other venues, I don't always know the exact value of a few things that I see or sell, but most of the time I do. If a collector was interested in an item that I too was interested in and I Bid $100.00. The collector may or may not know the exact value and could easily think " Well Heck, if it is worth $100.00 to oldmintdotcomm, I can surely bid $105.00 and be safe in getting a good deal figuring that $100.00 is wholesale." This next thing really happened just a few months ago. I had a pocket watch for sale in an Ebay auction. I gave it a minimum bid of $10.00, I did not know the exact value. The bidding was amazing. There were at least two pocket watch dealers bidding and at least five bidders that knew the user I.D.'s of the two dealers. I must have answered 50 questions via email and another 25 questions over the telephone, most of these questions were not from the dealers, but most of the conversations indicated that when they saw so-and-so bidding they knew that they could bid more and still get a great deal. This made me think that if I am bidding, I would sure like some way of not telling everyone who I am and gauranteeing that I will be out bid and will never get to buy anything through Ebay. Sniping is my answer. Sniping is placing my Proxy Bid for me at the very last minute, you can do that too, some I will win and some I will not win and that is as good as it gets. I hear all the complainers saying that they got out bid a the last minute and they had a Proxy Bid of $87.50 and it went for 103.75 at the last minute. BOO HOO! Then they will say " Heck, I'd would have gladly paid $110.00 for it. If that is really the case then they were not honest with themselves when they had that little talk with themselves about "How much would I be happy paying for this item?" Proxy Bidding and Sniping will benefit both you, my customers, and my Ebay efforts. I hope that you care to take advantage of this point of view , so bid long and prosper! Have a good Ebay!!

Enjoy this picture of the Carson City Mint, it is the view from Old Mint Coin & Bullion's front door and the second picture is of course of Old Mint Coin & Bullion taken from in front of the Old Mint.
