Nice to Meet You Oly the Garderner
|
Hi! My name is Dorothy Olechnowicz of "Oly Creations". I have been creating soft sculputure creatures and selling them on EBay under Dolls & Bears/Bears/Artist/Artist Offerings for five years.
Like many folks I have several hobbies and talents and not enough time to enjoy them. The last several years I have been working part-time at the local golf pro shop and have been able to devote time during the winter months and early spring to creating animals from synthetic and real furs.
This is a passion I have wanted to pursue for many years. It involves creativity, time, talent, hunting down fabric and suppies/suppliers, assembly skills, using hardware and power tools, painting, dying, sculpting to name a few. Who knew that bolt cutters would be a required item for making teddy bears? Since I cannot find my leather thimble and I refuse to buy another, I have learned to sew using pliers when needed.
Supplies are found mostly on the internet as the hardware stores are not stocking in large supply, either.
Enough ranting on that. They say you can tell a teddy bear artist by the noses. Although I can admire the mastering of perle cotton embroidery, my noses will be either leather or sculpted. I just like them to have nostrils to breathe from and hate the thought of all those holes in the fabric . Some of the perle cotton noses I have seen are true works of art in themselves.
My bears are meant to look more real or comical and not old fashioned. I do not make a stiff, statue type of creature either. I would say my animals are medium filled so you can "have a squeeze".
My creatures are first sewn by hand using nylon thread and then by machine. I never know what they will look like until they are finished. Every creature I have made so far was unique and they usually develop a story line during the 10 to 15 hrs. or more it takes to the finish line.
My first love is gardening for my self and others. I have one older dog, Kaley who acts as my supervisor when she is not sleeping and we recently adopted my sister's German Shepherd. I am a golfer, photographer and painter. I spent 12 years developing our property, planting, dividing, moving etc. and now I would say it is complete. So now I will have time for my painting. One of my employments was as a consumer technical assistant for a major pattern company.
There is a wide array of talent on display in EBay artist bears division and it is a good haven to escape to and "adopt" a friend along the way....
