Years ago I was taken to New York City to celebrate completing a mosaic bench for The Children's Museum of Chicago. That was my first time visiting New York, two weeks later I was living in Soho. Through my work (which had been the practice of massage therapy for fourteen years at that time,) I worked with many people in the fashion, film and music industries as well as notable art world figures. Many of those people were very creative and opened a door for discovering my own love of style and using the Flea Market in Chelsea for finding and collecting one of a kind pieces from the turn of the century to the eighties.

Having my practice made it possible to live in New York City and make trips to L.A. a part that practice and consequently their respective flea markets. The discovery of my love for clothing design and construction has grown and I have sewn many pieces through the art of repurposing and reconstruction of discarded clothing, remnants, handmade lace, and other materials. I have participated in a number of fashion shows with my own pieces I've called "Jackieono" up until recently. I recently bought the domain name "Paynesgrayvintage.com" which will include my upcoming designs made from vintage pieces of clothing and various remnants. I still travel to the two coasts and throughout the Midwest for my vintage collection. Having lived in New York City and returning there through my practice has given me an ongoing relationship with fashions incremental shifts as well as some of the broader movements whic occur. It also has helped to keep me in contact many of the people who are involved in shaping the future of what we'll be seeing on the streets of major cities around the country and the world. I have a natural aptitude for imagining all kinds of people and personalities wearing the pieces I find and am frequently told that I have a very good eye for style and am a trusted buyer for a number of clients. I am starting ebay here in Chicago and have what I call my vintage studio here in an industrial building filled with artists and designers of all kinds. I have about four shows a year here as well as private clients and groups who make appts. to shop here. I love participating in fashion shows, and other types of events like markets where I can display and sell the pieces I've made as well as my vintage collection. My newest challenge is opening a second studio space to expand myself creatively. I'm very excited to have this opportunity and look forward to seeing what I will accomplish.
