Howdy friends and neighbors! Welcome to my ebay About Me page! At the tender age of 5 years, I discovered my mothers small collection of Mercury dimes hidden deep inside a drawer. Before I was born, they were given to her for good luck at her wedding with my father. I thought they were great! I could give one to the store merchant and he would give a candy in return! I was a happy camper! Later when she found out, she didn't think it was such a great idea.
Collecting coins has long been a passion for me! Early on my Grandmother gave me several Whitman albums of Lincoln Wheat Cents, Jefferson Nickels and Mercury Dimes that she collected in pocket change when she lived in Los Angeles California in the late 1950's and early 1960's. Through the years, of all the coins I have bought and sold, I have managed to retain possesion on these collector sets and I treasure them still! I would buy simple collector type of coins in low grades just for their beauty and distinct design. Later I would sell or trade them for Morgan Dollars in high grade and the cycle would start again!
In the early 70's I bought my first Morgan Dollar from then coin dealer Q. David Bowers. I received the coin well packaged and presented but I found I had to return it due to the excessive 'tarnish'. Only later did I come to aprreciate desirible toning! Talk about being a 'newbie'! Over time, my numismatic interests have grown more sophisticated and, with additional funding, my collecting and investing has turned more serious with each passing year. My study of the field has provided me with tremendous fuel for that passion and still grows each day. There is a difference between what is interesting and what is actually collectible and desirable.
I have bought and sold many coins over the years and my personal collection has grown tremedously! PCGS and NGC graded coins provide for great security in authenticity, accuracy of grading and future marketability and are a must! Be picky within each grade and remember to buy what interests you, not the masses. Pay fair prices and BE PATIENT! Stretch a little to get the right coin. Strive for the best quality you can afford. You won't be sorry! Collect Key and Semi-Key issues within your series of interest. Think long term and upgrade your collection when possible.
