The Long Story
of My Last Negative Feedback
If you want GDW's real ID, you'll have
find it the legal way and read it in my feedback. I said in the
feedback that he refused to pay for the item, but I should have
instead said that he canceled the transaction. Here are all the
emails, in case you are interested in the whole story.
On 1/8/2006, I was still running a
holiday special where you could get three dozen brand new all white
Nike Mojos for $49 with Free shipping in the United States. The
normal price for these golf balls online or in golf pro shops is
around $20 per dozen, so you can see this was a great deal for eBayers.
In fact, I sold over 150 dozen Mojos for this holiday special.
On that day, 1/8/2006, the buyer, who we'll call GDW, clicked Buy It
Now and sent a Paypal payment of $49 with a shipping address in the
United Kingdom.
I sent him the following email on 1/8:
Hello:
These golf balls are not shipped free to any address outside of the
United States. My ad states that International bidders should email
for a shipping quote, but I think I should have placed it closer to
the top of the ad, and for that I aplogize. I have already amended
my current ad.
Actual shipping for three dozen golf balls to UK is $35.60 for airmail
(4-10 days), and $25.10 for surface mail. If you still want these
golf balls, I can refund your payment and reinvoice you. If you do
not wish to complete this transaction, I will refund your money and
file for a refund of my fees from eBay. Please let me know which you
prefer. Thank you.
On 1/10/2006 I received the following
email from GDW:
I wish to cancel this transaction. I had paid
your fee to then be refunded and charged more than the fair carriage
price for shipping to the uk. Could you cancel this please
regards
on 1/10/2006 I emailed back:
The amount for shipping is EXACTLY what the
US postage cost is to send it. In fact, I subtracted $5.00 so the
balls would be wholesale price to make it more reasonable for you.
That ad cost me $3.00 nonrefundable to relist, and I will have to file
for my final value fee refund in a week. Don't you DARE accuse me of
trying to overcharge you for postage. Good day, and please make sure
you review the UK postage chart for a 4 pound 14 oz package.
[I then included a chart of all USPS shipping charges and
options for that weight]
-
Since he asked me to cancel the
transaction, I relisted the golf balls, and they sold to someone
else within a few hours.
-
On 1/14/2006, I received another
paypal payment from GDW.
-
I again refunded his payment and I
responded with the following email:
Hi XXXXXXX,
As you can
see from
this listing,
I've relisted those golf balls and sold them already.
In fact, I didn't
relist again, as I have none left to sell. Once I sold this last six
dozen, I canceled the 3 dozen ad, and at this time, I am done with
selling Mojo dozens. I am going to refund this payment, and I will
be the first to extend the olive branch by filling out my refund as a
"mutual agreement to cancel" so that you don't get a nonpay strike
against you and I will still get my fees back.
I do agree with you that the shipping costs to UK for packages over 4
pounds is too expensive, and I would have gladly canceled the
transaction in the first place. I was very angry, however, when
you accused me of trying to cheat you on the shipping costs. I am not
dishonest and you had to no right to imply that I was. I realize
there a lot of crooks on eBay, but remember that there are a lot of
us are honest folks who still enjoy eBay for its sense of community.
Thanks anyway, for offering to pay for the transaction. Hopefully
you'll be able to find a comparable deal on new golf balls from some
other seller.
At that time, I filed for my FVF fees
back, and he. in turn, responded that he intended to pay for the
item, thus causing my FVF refund to be denied.
So, on 1/15/2006, I receive the following email from him:
what are you playing at, i have paid you the
price for the balls and your shipping, now you have refunded and
clearly paypal think there is something wrong with the way you are
trading as they have placed a hold on the money. what is going on?????
I don't know what was going on with his Paypal acct - you will have to
look at his feedback and
determine for yourself that he was having other problems.
So on 1/15 I responded to his email:
I don't know, but since you didn't agree to
not complete the transaction, you just screwed me out of my final
value fees. First you canceled the transaction, so I resold the
product, then you paid me for something that I had already sold to
someone else, and now you told them that you want to pay for something
that I told you I already sold, thus screwing me out of any refund I
could have gotten from the fact that you ruined my original listing.
So my question is, what's going on with you? All you are doing is
costing me money and grief. I have great feedback and I am an honest
ebayer. Why are you doing this to me?
On 1/15 I recieved this email:
Your attitude is disgusting, you do not
communicate with any sense of understanding,
you have not communicated to me that you had sold the balls again, you
had no right to
do this as ebay allows 10 days for payment to be received, you
informed me that the
postage amount was incorrect and i sent yoiu payment to take this into
consideration.
I do not care if you have lost your fees that is your problem for
selling the item twice,
if you do not have the item then it may be best to let ebay resolve
this matter as you are a very rude person to talk to
regards
I responded with this email on 1/15:
I am letting ebay resolve it. I have already
turned in the complaint. You are a very rude person. I sent you
nice emails to find out what was going on, and you ignored each of
them with no response.
Just so you know what is going on with my complaint, here is the
entire copy of what I just sent: [rest of the complaint was pretty
much copies of the same emails you have read so far]
-
So, on 1/20 GDW opens a
dispute for the case.
-
Remember, he has all of
his money refunded, and I have asked him to leave me alone.
-
Here is the verbatim copy of
the dispute with only the ID changed.
-
Notice, below, that GDW is lying about "Other"
as a payment method.
-
He can't figure out a way to explain to ebay why he
deserves a refund of $0.

Here are the exact words that the buyer emailed me on January 8,
2006:
I wish to cancel this
transaction. I had paid your fee to then be refunded and charged
more than the fair carriage price
for shipping to the uk. Could you cancel this please regards
I relisted the item, and it sold in a
few hours. I had refunded his money in full, and have
already told this person that the item is no
longer available for sale. Reread his email and check our
feedbacks How would you interpret the
email? |

Dispute Closed
Final Comments: This process is a waste of my time and obviously
will not resolve the fact the seller has sold a
product that they did not have sufficient stock off |

Seven weeks later, GDW leaves me a
neg. Apparently he is still angry about this transaction after
almost two months. Me, I moved on with my life. So, yes,
collecting golf balls is fun, but we also need to keep in mind that
life is too short for folks like GDW to waste this much time and energy over 3
boxes of new golf balls that he can still purchase at any golf
shop or WalMart.
