Dear Friends,
In June 2005, I received really bad news from
my doctor. My trigylcerides were in the RED
ZONE - "High Risk" for stroke. The ambulance
sirens went off in my head! 508 was the count to be exact. 508
became my magic number. In life, sometimes there are little keys given
to you that unlock big doors. 508 was a little key for me that opened
a big door exposing a problem that I had neglected for 15 years.
Once you hit "500" you are "high
risk" for heart disease. LDLs were high and the HDLs were real
low. Ratios were terrible. The doctor prescribed some pharmaceuticals
but I wasn't buying. When you read about all the dangerous and nasty
side effects of statin drugs, you will understand why. I hadn't taken
an antibiotic in 30 years. This was not the time to start going pharmaceutical.
I was about 15 lbs overweight, had that spare
tire growing around the mid-section. My liver was not in good shape
from a bout of hepatitis I contracted while on a mission in India way
back in 1976. An ultrasound was ordered. Results show I have a "fatty"
liver! Enough was enough. The
time for change had come! What is your magic number? What is

to make significant changes in my life and in my health regimen!

Wake Up Call and Committment
This time became a "wake up call" knowing
that I had to make some drastic changes in my life if I was ever going
to get back in shape and take charge of my life, instead of letting
chaos and health challenges ruin me. I stopped eating beef (for the
most part), I joined a gym and found out they offered classes for free
and I made some commitments.

Think about this: A personal trainer
can run you $50 - $75 an hour. If you join a Gym, and take advantage
of the free classes such as Yoga, Body Flow, Body Pump, RPM (cycling),
etc., then you can get "personal" instruction included in
the price of the membership. Most of the classes I take have 3 to 8
people in attendance. Not only do I get "personal" instruction,
I have the added benefit of the support and chemistry involved in a
group activity. Let's see: I take on average 3-4 free classes a week
(there are literally 40 hours of group classes scheduled!) and my membership
costs $40 a month. That works out to about $2.87 per class hour. This
of course doesn't take into account the unlimited number of hours that
the gym is open to me with over one million dollars in various workout
equipment if I choose to use it. If I do a measley two hours a week
in the gym using all this great equipment then my fee per hour reduces
to under $1.80. There is some unique value there. But you say, what
if I don't go? Well, that's where you gotta have some committment.
Conquering Oneself!
I decided I was willing to do what's hard. I decided
to act in spite of my fears. I committed that I was bigger than any
obstacle and that I would never give up. These were powerful commitments.
The philosophy of the Enlightened Warrior became my
creed. A warrior by definition is one who goes about "to conquer."An
Enlightened Warrior is one who seeks to "conquer oneself."
How tough is that? Well, try breaking a life long habit! Here's a challenge:

Dosing
with Omega-3s In my opinion, there is a huge gaping hole in the
nutrition consumed in the United States. It begins with deficiencies
in Omega-3s. Omega-3s are called Essential Fatty Acids. No, these do
not make you fat. You actually lose weight by replacing Omega-6s(regular
vegetable based cooking oil) with Omega-3s. Understand Omega-3s are
basic cellular building blocks. 1 or 2 capsules a day are good
but not enough. We don't take one or two bites of food a day
and say, "We're done!" We eat for sufficiency and then we
eat for pleasure! So
