Welcome to River Ridge Fiber Arts!!!
My passions run toward all fibers -- cotton, silk, wool and even paper.
I have been quilting for 15 years primarily as a traditional quilter who loves color. Lately I have introduced other mediums to my quilts and tend to work on small, expressive quilts instead of large bed quilts.
Recently I began to dye silks and I am smitten with the process as well as the end results. Silk is so wonderful to work with. To feel the lucious silks and to watch the silks change as the dye is applied is mesmerizing!! My favorite size to work with is 18" x 18" or otherwise known as a fat quarter. My favorite color palate is red/orange/yellow. I will begin marketing my hand dyed silks in January 2006 as "Silks Dyeing to be Embellished". These silks will be dyed to resemble a seaside sunset, forests, landscapes. etc and they will be ready for you to embellish with machine quilting and embroidery, bead work and other means to embellish fabric such as foiling, stamping and image transfers. It will be very exciting and a great creative outlet for anyone from beginners to experts. My friends who make crazy quilts are very excited about this line of silks.
I have been collecting wool clothing from thrift stores and estate sales for several years now. Some of the wool is used in hand applique and the rest I will hand felt to make pin cushions, check book covers and other small, unusual items. Wool is very fun to work with because it does not require turning when used in applique and it has a wonderful texture!! I will be selling kits that contain my wools in late December 2005. These kits will be very colorful and quick to applique.
I also enjoy paper crafting -- collage, memory books, etc. I don't get in much scrapbooking but I enjoy doing that as well. This venue is very time consuming but also very theraputic. It is really not suited for me to market because of the time and effort involved in completing a project and it tends to appeal to a limited audience.
I am an avid reader and subscribe to many magazines that relate to my various artistic venues. I also like to read mysteries and women's drama. I also love stories about the early days of our country particularly the stories of pioneer women quilters.
Check out my items for sale!! You NEVER know what I may have for sale on eBay!! With all of these passions and I also love to attend estate sales you never know what I will have for sale!!
