How I fell in love with Elvis

When I was a teenager, my parents were very very very strict. They never let us do things other kids got to do such as ball games, movies, dancing, even make-up. All was forbidden because of our religion. Well when Elvis came into the picture, he had my parents (and many others) believing he was the devil himself. All I ever heard was how vulgar he was and that long hair etc. When I mentioned I would like to make my bedroom into an Elvis bedroom, mom hit the ceiling.  I decided right then when I got out on my own I would make my Elvis bedroom and no one would stop me. I guess I was rebelling like teenagers do. Well life throws many curves and soon I was busy raising my own family and the Elvis room got pushed futher and futher back in my mind. Oh, I still enjoyed watching him on T.V. and going to his movies and even bought Elvis items every so often. Well  through the years I had told my daughter several times that I always wanted an Elvis bedroom.

When I was 60 years old, my daughter was up for a visit and as we were chatting, she made the remark, I must have finally gotten over Elvis. Well, yes he was dead, but I still loved him and played his music etc alot. I told her I still wish I had that bedroom. She laughed and said,"mom, you are over 60 years old now, if you still want that room, you should go ahead and make it so you can enjoy it some. I got to thinking why not? So I set out to buy Elvis fabric to make curtains. Well, the stores no longer sold it as it was stopped in 1993 and this was in 2000. I finally found ebay and YES some Elvis fabric was on it, but not enough to make curtains. Thus I started buying other Elvis items and soon my closets were filled.Over a 3 year period I finally got enough fabric to make curtains, chair covers for rocker, then I started making everything Elvis I could think of. Pillow cases, tablecloths, tree skirts, vests, quilts, lamp shades etc. Well it took me almost 3 more years to finally get enough Elvis to keep me happy. I now have 5 rooms all decorated in Elvis. We eat special meals on Elvis dinnerware, drink from Elvis glasses, coffee from Elvis cups and Champange from Elvis champange glasses. Christmas has  an all Elvis ornaments Christmas tree withthe Elvis tree skirt around it and other Graceland and Elvis items I use for just Christmas. We even have musical toilet paper holders that play Elvis songs. Now at age 66 I am content , I finally have my wish fullfilled. Now I have so much to leave my grandchildren. I have 10 grandchildren, but the boys are  not into collecting and Elvis like the girls. They already have declared which pieces of Elvis is theirs when I die. I have over 40 Elvis dolls and one granddaughter wants them all and started a big arguement when some of the others said they wanted some too.One granddaughter wants just the plates on the walls  and another wants just the dishes and glasses. The grandsons only seem to want the coins, knives, guitars and the watches. I am sure they will work it all out. Everyone tells me I am very lucky to have a husband who allowed me to redo the whole house and fill it with Elvis. I know I am lucky and blessed too
