My latest passion - Antique Dolls!!

"Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, my dearest Teddy.... "
"Not forgetting Wiggie, Waggie and Wollie"
"Oh what JOY you have brought to my life!"
My passion for these darling bears started in year 2004. My dearest husband, who was searching for a special birthday gift for my 36th birthday brought up a question that changed my life forever. He asked if I could have one thing from my childhood that I treasured and would bring back good memories, what would it be? I thought long and hard ........
My early childhood was spent in the foreign country of Malaysia. Malaysia was a British colony until 1957. A very beautiful country with lots of Moorish and British influence. I remember being educated in the British ways. As an only child, books became my best friend. My favourite British author when I was growing up was Enid Blyton. She wrote stories and adventures of Toys in the nursery and children who found fairies, pixies and brownies in their garden and went with them to the great Land of Fairies for an amazing adventure!! One of my very favourite book was entitled "The Three Golliwogs" - Wiggie, Waggie, Wollie and their best friend Teddy Bear.
My first mission was to find the original copy of that book (which I found on E-bay, of course) and along the way, I also found an artist in New Zealand, Robin Rive, who made golliwogs with the closest resemblance to Enid Blyton's gollies! So I got Wiggie, Waggie and Wollie from her and these brave gollies hop on the plane and flew all the way here! Now I just need to find the right Teddy Bear to complete the characters in her book. This brought me to the world of Steiff Bears and I found the perfect Teddy Bear!!
Well, that was how it started. My collection of antique dolls is another story for another time. Sometimes, I look at my husband and I wonder if he ever regretted asking me the question that started all this!
