I have purchased from eBay for years. I have loved garage sales longer than that. I was always getting into trouble for bringing "treasures" home...SOOO it just seemed natural that I would become an ebay seller someday. I've gotten better at knowing what are great finds and what I can sell. I am still amazed at the times when something I think no one would want ends up being a great auction for me. I love listing things that I don't think are really worth anything and they end up being collectible. It is very rewarding when buyers email to tell me how much they love an item, how they have been looking for a certain item for a long time, or how something reminds them of their grandparents.A little over a year ago I thought about selling on eBay but I was afraid. To sell on eBay as a true business requires a lot of learning. I spent an entire month reading Home-Based Business, Tax Law and eBay Business books. March 2005 I made it official. I had the computer, the camera, the "treasures" and the know how. Buying on eBay gives you great perspective when becoming a seller. My friends thought I was crazy...but I'm still with it. THEY are coming to me now to find out how much THEIR stuff is worth!!!!It has been a big help to our family. Since it is a "second" job, I only make enough to help with the bills and take a little bit of the edge off of those end of the month blues. Like I said earlier, I have been able to pay a few things off and that is major in my book! I commend people who sell on ebay full time. It is a lot of work. If I ever did the math to figure out what I make per hour with ebay...I'd probably give it up. That's where the enjoyment comes in. If is wasn't fun I wouldn't do it.
I think the hardest part of selling on eBay is shipping. Sometimes it can be really hard to find just the right box or just the right packaging material. I certainly envy stores that have the ability to purchase air-pillows, peanuts and bubblewrap. I have changed my routine and gone to Priority Mail only. (I ship First Class when available as it keeps shipping costs to a minimum.) It makes things simpler, the cost is only a few cents more than Parcel Post and Buyers get their items much much quicker. I find that shipping isn't as laborsome as it used to be for me now. (Sticky labels also made a world of difference! Who knew?) There are times that I just can't find the time to pack everything. It can be hard juggling work, kids, home and ebay on top of everything else that goes on in ones life. So the way I keep it simple is by only listing what I can keep up with on shipping. I would rather have few listings and earn positive feedback for shipping than to chance having too many auctions going and not be able to fulfill my shipping terms. So far so good!!!
