Gallery of museum quality Original Acrylic & Oil Paintings. Artwork of belly dancers, cats, animals, Barbie, figures, portraits, & nudes. Maria Parasson ( a.k.a MARIAH ) is an Artist and Professional Bellydancer / Instructor for Habeeba's Dance of the Arts, OH
I graduated from Ohio University and did graduate work at Ohio State University and through the University of Georgia's Studies Abroad Program in Cortona, Italy. Since graduating, I set up shop in Ohio and have been involved in innumerable exhibitions throughout the country.
Painting with oils and acrylics are my mediums of choice. Most paintings are created on primed stretched canvas, canvas panels, or heavyweight Masonite. I always use the best quality paint mixed with my own special recipe of artist mediums. Each piece is protected from dust, dirt, and UV light rays with a satin, matte, or glossy varnish developed by conservators. Subject matter ranges from portraits, nudes, narratives, animals, and some slightly surreal imagery.
Many art critics have reviewed my shows. Some of my favorite quotes;
"Parasson has a fresh earnest style that becomes more entrenched in her own visual lexicon and ideology with every show. Hers is an essentially gentle and playful vision by political concerns and justice and equality for women. She also is an extremely original and adept colorist."
"Parasson, who also is a belly dancer, is not afraid of her sensuality. Figures are full-bodied and lovingly rendered."
"In terms of personal investment, Parasson is out there feeling everything."

Professional Bellydancer & Instructor
Ever since I was a young girl I wanted to be a dancer. My mom had me in every type of lesson available in Akron, OH (where I'm originally from). I took baton, tap, jazz, ballet, gymnastics, cheerleading, and even bellydancing. I grew up listening to music from Greece, Turkey, and countries in the Middle East. My family is in the restaurant business so we always had plenty of food, music, and culture around the house. There usually was a bellydancer at every party and event.
I moved to Columbus after receiving my BFA from OU. While I was in Europe studying towards my MFA it was then that I decided I wanted to seriously study Bellydancing. I think it was 1992 when I first discovered Habeeba's Dance of the Arts in Columbus. Thank God! Habeeba changed my life. She gave me confidence and made me feel so comfortable with my body. Throughout the years learning from Habeeba, I knew I had a chance at becoming a professional dancer, even though I was only 5'1" with lots of curves. She told me in this dance they like girls built like you!
I've been a belly dance instructor at Habeeba's since 1996. The studio is my home away from home. I perform regularly all over the country as a soloist and with Habeeba's Danse Orientale Troupe. Recently I was a featured performer with the Bellydance Superstars and the Oojami band (UK) on their U.S.A. tour. 2006 & 2007 Winner in the East Coast Belly Dance Classic Fantasy Artist competition and Boston Diva Pageant. 2006 Winner in Personal Best National Middle Eastern Dance Competition, Za-Beth's Annual Diva Pageant, and Jewel of the Nile.
My stage name is Mariah. Enjoy video clip of me performing live!
-Arabian Legends CD for teaching and Oojami CD for performing
-Belady lesson
-Boda routine

My one piece of advise for students of belly dance is to really know your music, especially for a solo.
